Increasing performance through increasing resilience

Increasing performance through increasing resilience

After working in adult education and managment training for over 20 years, I have seen pressure on managers/leaders, complexity of the business, economical environment and decision scope increase, while the targeted competencies and skills have not changed that much.

So what if it was less about WHAT skills and capabilities are developed, but HOW they are targeted through training and development activities?

What if organizations start thinking of their people less as a resource, where one-shot learning is provided more or less effectively, but as athletes, who grow through practice and perfection their skills in a progressive approach, targeted to their unique skillset and talent?

What if you could provide a training framework in which these manager-athletes could practice and increase resilience and develop their skills in a safe environment, to be more equipped with the volatile and changing workplace they are facing and get the right reflexes to make better decisions?

A simulation-based training and organizational development approach will allow each organization to help their employees to develop the skills needed (be it safety, strategy execution, developing consumer trust and loyalty, process optimization, performance management, innovation…) in a progressive and holistic way, leveraging gamification techniques and making learning and training both sustainable and measurable. And develop that one unique skill that will make all the difference: resilience.

An example of such an initiative is the Shell Maritime Partners in Safety Program, which aims for a zero incident industry based on the new view of Safety, and supports shipping companies with various modules and insturments to create a Safety Culture onboard their vessels. Resilience, the ability of responding to difficult and stressful situations, symbolizes the foundation of the whole program.

Using a customized version of the Human Element in Shipping Simulation (TOPSIM-HEISS), the facilitation material has been created specifically for this program. Structured behavioural learning exercises make the learning process contextualized and relevant. This highly interactive and participant-driven workshop engages every participant, and creates measurable and sustainable results.

Our TOPSIM Partner Atria Learning and Development as well as our TOPSIM Global team would be happy to provide you with more details on this and all our other simulation-based trainings and organizational development initaitives.
