Increasing participation and reducing wait times for colorectal cancer screening across Canada

Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of death in Canada. Yet when found early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable. A key priority of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control is to diagnose cancers, like colorectal cancer, faster and at an earlier stage. One way we can do this is by strengthening colorectal cancer screening programs across the country.??

The first organized colorectal cancer screening program in Canada was introduced in 2008. We’ve made great strides since then, but there’s more to be done together.?


Understanding colorectal cancer screening in Canada

Organized colorectal screening programs are available in most provinces and territories to individuals who are asymptomatic (no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer present) and at average risk for colorectal cancer.
