Increasing awareness, by the numbers

Increasing awareness, by the numbers

Credit Union Awareness made some key updates in 2022 to reflect its evolution. They started with the idea of making more consumers aware of credit unions, then moved to increasing consumers’ consideration of credit unions.

This year Credit Union Awareness focused on converting YourMoneyFurther.com visitors into credit union members. A large part of that strategy involved increasing organic search traffic―that is, traffic that comes without paid advertisements directing people to the site.

Organic search traffic is up 18% in 2022 compared to 2021, and the site now ranks in the top five Google results for “credit union finder” and the top 10 for “credit union.”

This translates to some impressive numbers:?

  • Daily search impressions have grown from an average of 150 per day to 23,000 per day.?
  • Average time on the site has increased from 30 seconds in 2021 to just over three minutes this year.?
  • Use of the credit union locator is up 38% compared to 2021.

This is possible thanks to League, credit union, and system partner dedication to ensuring consumers experience the credit union difference.?

Filene also has other resources and research available on the real-world implications of changing financial lives for the better.

This is the second disbursement from the fund―the first $50,000 provided humanitarian assistance to refugees. The fund has raised nearly $1.7 million to date, and the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions continues to monitor its impact and look for additional assistance opportunities.

A heartfelt congratulations to Minnesota Credit Union Network President/CEO Mark Cummins, who announced this week he will retire in April 2023. He has served in many key industry leadership roles, including chair of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) Board, CUNA Board of Directors’ Executive Committee, and CUNA’s National Advocacy Committee. We wish Mark and his family the very best. ??

CFPB issues debt collection fees advisory opinion

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued an advisory opinion this week prohibiting several debt collection practices and fees under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. CUNA joined other organizations in filing an amicus brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in February, as we believe the bureau’s strict interpretation of “permitted by law” under the FDCPA will ultimately harm consumers.
