Increase your impact by finding out what people need. When you find out, meet their need. So, how do you find out? Ask people what they need. Find their pain, so to speak.
Now, here's the deal. You may have to sift thru some junk when you ask folk what they need. We often confuse what we need with what we want. I know I do. Here's how I define wants and needs.
Wants: Something we desire that will help us feel better at the moment or for a short time.
Needs: Something we desire that will help us be better, do better, and help others for the long-term.
The next time you're working with a client or someone on your team, find out if what they're asking for is what they want or what they need. The difference will save you and them time, effort, and money.
