INCREASE TRAFFIC ON YOUR BLOG SITE
Parul Singh
Editor, Writer, YouTuber. Your next door author who is constantly fishing for ideas and inspiration.
Wrote something life changing today?
Loved every bit of it?
But, still no traffic?
SAD.
Wait, wait, wait!
Before you get the wrong idea about this post here, let me clarify that I am not here to sympathise with the fact that you got no traffic on your blog.
In fact, I am here to be brutally honest with you and tell you the reasons and solutions to get out of this mud-mesh.
Let me ease you guys a bit and give you a few pointers on how to increase traffic on your site.
1. Experiment
I am sure you guys are already aware of the fact that a blog needs to be promoted to catch the public eye.
But let us not go through this the traditional way.
There is a bigger market apart from platforms like Facebook, twitter etc.
Experiment using other media outlets such as Medium, pinterest, Digital doughnut and other such communities.
These platforms work exceptionally well if you are a beginner. You get to interact with people from across the world who are into the same things you are.
Also, you get appreciations and criticism from the people who have known the blogging business for long and that works well to give you a better perspective and helps you improve your work.
Experiment can also be done with the kind of language you use while writing.
Make it engaging and conversational. Give your audience the reason to feel the connect with you. Use pun and wit when required and keep in mind that too much of it would irritate your reader. You don’t want that.
2. Post Round The Clock
Taking too many breaks in between your post conveys that you are lazy and not interested in promoting the blog. It is important to keep your audience hooked onto your posts through regular blogging.
No one on the internet has the patience to wait for 20 days before you come with another post.
Post on weekly basis. Decide on a day and make sure that you take out the time to complete your post before that.
If you follow a blog regularly, you would know what I mean here.
Imagine your favourite blogger not giving you a post for a long time. Wouldn’t you end up losing your interest in his/her work?
You would.
You would search for another blog and start following him instead.
I agree it can be hard to be post fresh content everyday. But here is how to crack it:
- Repost your old blogs to fill the blank area. Don’t target the same post in the same social platform. Customize it for other platforms and share them there.
- Have a bank of 50 unpublished articles as you start your blog. And maintain that bank of articles so that you don’t disconnect with the audience when you can’t write.
- Use the news to make small jokes or serious articles. Such frequent flow of info would spark titles which can provide your audience something different once in awhile.
3. Find the loopholes
Research the market well.
Make a database of all your competitive blogs.
Since you are fairly well to the blogging space, you do not have the pressure of reader's expectation which gives you the opportunity to take time out and scan the market well.
There are always some “fumble points” in the blogs that need to be watched carefully while analysing a competitive blog.
These fumble points are the ones which offer you the opportunity to be different from other blogs on the market. Make sure you judge and use them well.
4. Proofread
Please, please make sure that you read and re-read your post a million times.
There is absolutely no scope for a mistake and a grammatical error is almost fatal.
Now there are times that you might not be able to spot an error that well. In cases like that, it is always better to share your work with someone who you feel would be able to help you out in the editing process.
If you are in acquaintance with someone who has reasonable experience in the same field, then its a big thumbs up for you.
This will help you perfect your blog and level out the errors.
Use tools like Grammarly for example. You should know that Google brings your piece really low on indexing if you don’t write in perfect English. And by perfect I mean, in perfect grammar.
5. Kickass analytics
Lastly, feedback.
This leg is extremely important particularly because this forms your self-judgment tool.
Taking regular feedbacks from your readers helps you know their requirements, interest and regions that they feel are not upto the mark.
But, for this last point to work, you need to learn to take criticism in a positive way. You must respect the views of your readers and consider their opinions. Trust me, it will only help you improve.
Some of the tools that could help you in kickass analytics are Google Analytics, clicky and so on. Here is an exhaustive list of tools you could use.
Clicky actually gives you real-time analytics which is really cool. Just give it a shot!
That brings us to the end of it.
One last word of advice, have patience.
Don't go bonkers if you don’t have enough traffic. Every good thing takes time and you need to be slow and steady to win the race.
Happy Blogging!
Ciao
