Inconsistent & Unreliable Human Design
Zette Harbour
As a Human Design Guide & Certified Professional Coach, I support leaders in realizing their potential by claiming their unique gifts so they can embody their impact and empower others.
The first thing I invite you to notice is if you have a judgment about the phrase 'inconsistent and unreliable.'
If you do, you're not alone.
For the most part, we're all conditioned to believe that being consistent and reliable is essential in order to be a 'good' person, a valuable employee, lovable ... fill in the blank.
We like people and things that are consistent and reliable.
We like consistency and reliability from things like food at our favorite restaurant, health care from our provider, package delivery from our online shopping platforms, the weather...
Maybe most critically, we like consistency and reliability from our partners, our children, our business partners, and our customers.
So, when I tell you that there are parts of you that are designed to be inconsistent and unreliable in your Human Design, you're likely going to judge those parts as less than, or not as good as, the parts of you that are consistent and reliable.
However, in Human Design it's essential to see, embrace, appreciate, and even love those inconsistent and unreliable parts.
And any thoughts or feelings you have that create resistance to this are clear signs that you've been conditioned by others and the environment in general.
The Most Important Thing
In all of the teachings found in the Human Design system, the absolutely most important one is...
Love Yourself.
The thing is, even if you've done work to restore your connection to Self-Love before, you most likely couldn't differentiate between what's your True Self and what's Not Self.
True Self in Human Design is what's activated and defined in you.
Not Self is what you've absorbed in your Openness that's untrue.
So, if you were investing energy and time in loving a Self that doesn't really exist but is the product of a lifetime of conditioning, you weren't going to experience the liberation and enlivenment you were hoping for.
To put this another way...
You may have merely been trying to find a way to love the You that others expect you to be... rather than the You that you're meant to be.
Therefore, that would mean you'd still be judging the parts of you that others don't understand or appreciate.
And some of those parts are inconsistent and unreliable.
The thing is...
Self Love only happens when you know exactly who you are.
And, Human Design is the only system I've experienced that consistently and reliably describes the truth of who you're meant to be based on how you are designed.
Think Of It This Way
One way to imagine what this means is to think of a building.
By the way, you're the building and you've been designed with certain features as well as certain openness.
Let's say you're designed to be a retreat center in the remote wilderness.
But, everyone around you expects you to be a hub of commerce and trade, like a stock exchange office on Wall Street.

Now, there are lots of rational reasons why you'd think being a busy, financially successful hub of material exchange was the best kind of building to be.
Generally speaking, achieving financial success and material abundance is considered to be a universal indicator of having made it in life, of having fulfilled your potential as a member of society.
The thing is, your blueprint calls for a quiet, expansive, gentle space with lots of openness to the pristine nature around you.
Success for you looks very different than success for that stock exchange office.
Unfortunately, you've come to believe what everyone has told you about what you SHOULD be...
And so, you have to use force of will or effort to contort your nature into a shape that approximates what others, and now you, expect.
This will almost exclusively involve judgment, blame, and shame, as well as mental gymnastics.
It will include stress, fear, and pain.
Some of it yours, some of it in those around you.
Fortunately, you have a system available to you that alleviates all of that.
Because your Human Design chart tells you exactly what your blueprint, environment, and floor plan are.
Loving Your True Self Means Seeing What You Aren't
You have lots of inconsistent and unreliable traits and strengths.
Meaning that you're allowed to be inconsistent and unreliable in accordance with your design.
Heresy, I know.
The reason for this is that all of the areas in your Human Design chart that aren't fixed and defined are considered inconsistent and unreliable.
And yet, these areas are essential to living fully and lovingly as your True Self.
Because once you understand what you aren't, you can stop trying to force yourself to contort into that.
Then, the energy you were using to pose as someone you're not is freed up so you can beam your True Self more brightly into the world.
It won't take effort to do that.
It won't take force or will.
And, it won't cause physical harm to your body.
In fact, your body will respond by becoming more energized and healthy.
So, learn your design.
Love your design.
Live your design.
