Be Inclusive With Passive Learners When Training

Passive learners can present several challenges for instructors, including lack of?engagement, difficulty assessing understanding, and difficulty motivating.

Passive?learning is a major problem in education today because it does not engage learners?in the learning process.

According to Karen L. Murphy, Ph.D., an educational?psychologist, and associate professor of psychology at the University of Texas at?Austin. Passive learners tend to be less motivated and less invested?in their education, which can lead to poor academic performance and a lack of long term retention of material,

But do not worry, there's still hope!

To effectively engage passive learners in a virtual classroom, instructors can try several strategies:

  • Use interactive activities such as surveys, quizzes, and group rooms to?encourage active participation.
  • Make use of real-world examples to link the material to learners' work or personal?lives to make it more relevant and interesting.
  • Verbal and nonverbal cues to encourage passive learners to participate in?class discussions and activities.
  • Provide individualised feedback to each learner to help them identify their?strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Use technology such as virtual whiteboards, screen sharing and video?conferencing to create a more interactive and engaging learning experience.

Working with passive learners can be challenging, but with the right approach, adept?trainers can help them become more active and engaged in the learning process.
