The Inclusive Empathy Forum

The Inclusive Empathy Forum

I hope you are taking action during this #BlackHistoryMonth! That's what Radical Empathy is all about, and I am proud to announce that we have a new way for leaders to start taking action to create change.

When I began writing my book, #RadicalEmpathy, I was hoping to find a way to get people to think about bridging divides in a different way. Workshops on implicit bias and DEI consultants didn' seem to be moving the needle. As a researcher, I had to try to figure out what could work while understanding what wasn't working. I also knew I had to start with myself. Truly bridging divides begins with being vulnerable and grounded in who we are as individuals. It's hard to be open to the experiences of others if you aren't open to understanding your own experiences. This process demanded that I take a genuine look inward and focus on doing the internal work. It meant getting to the point where I could acknowledge the impact of internalized oppression on MY life.

Even before my book was published two (!) years ago, I was asked to develop workshops for a variety of clients. The work has been extremely rewarding and in the last two and a half years I have done a combination of over 60 podcasts, webinars, and starting last Spring, in-person talks. The reviews were glowing and the word spread.

"This webinar was on a timely subject and also had a very positive perspective. I appreciated the tools for incorporating into my work life. This felt like an opportunity for both professional development and personal growth. I appreciate the opportunity to hear this speaker!"

The requests keep coming in and as I get older, having a full-time job as a professor and keeping up with so many workshops and talks is often overwhelming. I truly appreciate all the amazing folks who have reached out and taken Radical Empathy to heart, and I also want to make sure that leaders can continue to benefit from the lessons of inclusive leadership. So, like Maxine Waters did a few years go, I'm #ReclaimingMyTime.

Maxine Waters sitting at a podium during a hearing saying "I'm reclaiming my time"?

When Maxine Waters told a witness at a hearing that she was "reclaiming her time" women across the country completely understood what she was saying and the meme went viral. Rather than dashing across North America, I'm going to ask YOU to come to ME - and we're going to do it in beautiful Atlanta, Georgia. This August, we are launching the Inclusive Empathy forum. K-12 Superintendents, Higher Ed administrators and Ed Tech leaders are invited to an immersive and transformational weekend experience for forward-thinking leaders. We chose Atlanta because of the amazing opportunities to connect with the history of the Civil Rights movement, and the fact that it has so many great examples of inclusive leadership.

Over the course of this workshop, you will learn not only from me, but amazing workshop leaders Rhonda Brown , Danielle Harlan, Ph.D. , and Justin Gest . What will you get out of it? You won't spend the weekend sitting in a stuffy room being talked to - this is a truly immersive and interactive experience where you will leave:

  • Understanding the key components to inclusive leadership, including demonstrating the skills to communicate and relate to others with empathy
  • Understanding the importance of empathy in identifying who you want to be as a leader.
  • Using cultural humility to connect with yourself and others
  • Understanding key terms around DEIB and recognizing their significance
  • Being able to tell your own story in the context of societal change
  • Developing skills to work with the media and drive effective internal communications

Join us and help change the world. Interested? Sign up for more information here: https://www.terrigivens.com/forum/ Feel free to reach out directly, particularly if you are interested in sponsorship opportunities.

Sounds really interesting! Do you know when in August it’s going yet?

Honored to be a part of this work with you and the team—and looking forward to August!

Beautiful!! I'm always grateful ?? to those amongst us who practice what you appropriately call "radical empathy." It's easy for us to say that we empathize, but we do not find it as easy to go the extra necessary steps to demonstrate practical love and care for others. Peace and love ??
