Transgender Awareness Week: Advocating for Workplace Inclusivity and Equity

Did you know?

Within the workplace, half of transgender people hide their authentic selves in fear that they will be discriminated against (Stonewall 2018). ?Further to this, ?1 in 4 trans people are encouraged to hide or disguise their identities by a work colleague (Stonewall 2018).?? To create a more inclusive and supportive workplace for transgender employees, Charlotte Sweeney Associates recommends ?implementing these top 3 measures:?

1.???? Consider Your Policies

2.???? Be respectful of inclusive pronouns

3.???? Collaborate and show support.

?

To create a more inclusive and supportive workplace for transgender employees we offer numerous recommendations, resources and tips for policies in our thought leadership articles. For more details and tips see our recent article on transgender awareness here:

Positively Purple: PurpleSpace Event

Positively Purple: PurpleSpace Event

Our Managing Director, Sara Crawford, had an incredible time at ?PurpleSpace’s Positively Purple Event at the London Eye, for celebrating disability confidence and ??recognising disability ERGs and Networks worldwide

#PurpleLightUp?is a global movement that celebrates and draws attention to the economic contribution of the 386 million disabled employees around the world founded by?Kate Nash OBE ??

Organisations participate by lighting up their buildings in purple and encouraging employees to wear the colour ?along with holding events ??on improving support and workplace policies for disabled employees. But more importantly, companies use #PurpleLightUp?to drive cultural change. It was brilliant to see such a monumental landmark lit up in support of disability confidence!

Shaping the Future by Embracing Flexible Work: Fawcett Society Equal Pay Research

As a proud accredited Living Wage employer, we recognise the ?importance of equitable pay. Not only does it stand as a testament to our commitment to fairness, but as highlighted by the Living Wage Foundation it also serves as a catalyst for enhancing reputation, fostering positive workforce relations, and appealing to customers, clients, and investors.

Prioritising flexible work options across job types becomes a strategic approach to mitigating the gender pay gap, supporting diverse needs, and promoting universal empowerment.

In our continuous pursuit for fostering inclusivity and equality, we draw attention to the latest research conducted by the Fawcett Society on Equal Pay. The findings illuminate a critical pathway towards narrowing the gender pay gap — making flexible work the default.

In response to these insights, the Fawcett Society is urging the Government to mandate employers to advertise all reasonable flexible work options to applicants.
