An incident that shook me to my core...

Every few months, I make a visit to my India office to meet my Offshore development team. About 2 years back, during one of my visits, I received a call from a known friend of mine. He requested that I meet one of his connections. I said ok, then came a young girl with crutches, seemed with an amputated leg and with an older gentleman. The person introduced himself saying he is the father of the girl and the girl lost her leg in an accident. The girl was attending Engineering and she was in her 3rd year. The girl showed her amputated leg and said Sir, we need about $350 to get an artificial leg. I didn't think twice, we paid her the required money. 

The next thing I received was a beautiful picture of her with her artificial leg. The joy, I felt was just unbelievable. That just made my day. 

 The story didn't end there, after a few months I received another message from her father, that the girl passed away, her wound became sepsis as her wound was not attended/covered properly that ultimately led to infection and death. What devastation, can you think of what her parents went thru, losing a grown up kid like that.

This begs the question; how could we have saved her. I am sure she and her dad must have been searching for a donor. That is indeed an arduous process, reaching the right social organization, must have taken time. Imagine having a platform, where anyone with need can make a request and it reaches the donor crowd. All it takes few tens of people to fund that need. That is indeed the ambition of TouchALife, support both crowdfunding and crowdsourcing for help, with support by TALScouts (High School Kids) who can moderate the platform and validate the needs for any fraud or misuse.

I am posting this on Social platforms, most of the people here are educated and well to do. We have 2 phases of our life, Profit and Purpose. During the initial stages of our life, we are all in the business of earning, which is good. But at some point, it will turn to the Purpose of Life, we all know, we came with nothing and we take nothing.
