This Inc. 5000 Founder Has Weathered DEI Backlash. Now, She’s Preparing for 4 Years Under Trump

Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts have been the subject of intense scrutiny since the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling last June. Organizations like Fearless Fund and Hello Alice have navigated lawsuits over their grant programs for Black entrepreneurs, while conservative social-media campaigns led companies like Lowe’s and Tractor Supply to abandon their goals for DEI.

Morgan DeBaun , founder of media, tech, and talent company Blavity Inc. , has seen the shift first-hand.

Los Angeles-based Blavity, which placed No. 2217 on the Inc. 5000 list last year, is the parent company of AfroTech, a wealth-building platform that hosts an annual conference and networking event for Black tech leaders that will kick off in Houston later this week.

Blavity also offers Talent Infusion, a software-as-a-service product that connects employers to diverse talent. DeBaun says many of her talent infusion clients and AfroTech partners, especially those with government contracts, are adapting to the changing DEI landscape in surface-level ways: “We haven’t seen any change in commitment to wanting to have a diverse workforce.
