In-House Answers: Is Cybersecurity Really Something SMB's Should Tackle Alone?

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are often the targets of cybercriminals, and yet many SMBs mistakenly believe they can handle their cybersecurity needs in-house, without any external help or support. While it may seem like a cost-effective solution, this way of thinking can be extremely dangerous and can lead to serious consequences.

The reality is that SMBs typically lack the necessary resources and expertise to effectively manage their cybersecurity requirements (enter Praetorian Secure). Many SMBs don't have the personnel or financial resources to hire dedicated cybersecurity professionals (enter vCISO Program --- from Praetorian Secure). They are also often unaware of the risks posed by new technologies or threats and may not have the time or resources to keep up with the latest security trends and best practices. Without the proper knowledge (may I suggest Praetorian Secure), SMBs may not be able to identify potential vulnerabilities or detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.

Furthermore, cybersecurity is an ever-evolving field, and SMBs need to stay abreast of any changes. This requires a significant amount of time and effort, which can be difficult for SMBs to manage. Without the expertise (you guessed it) and resources to quickly adjust to a rapidly changing environment, SMBs may be unable to protect themselves against emerging threats.

Finally, SMBs may underestimate the cost of cybersecurity (and not understand the affordability of our vCISO Program). Many SMBs think they can get away with relying on basic security measures, such as antivirus software and firewalls, to protect their networks. However, these measures are not enough to protect against sophisticated cyberattacks. A comprehensive cybersecurity solution requires a significant investment (not if you do your research --- may I suggest Praetorian Secure?), and SMBs may not be able to afford it.

In short, SMBs should not attempt to handle their cybersecurity needs on their own. Without the right expertise (are you going to make me say it again?)and resources, SMBs are at a greater risk of falling victim to cybercrime. It is important for SMBs to recognize the importance of working with a trusted cybersecurity partner (YOU KNOW WHO!!) to ensure their networks remain secure and compliant.
