Improving Water Conservation and Watershed Restoration in the Texas Panhandle in Partnership with Texan by Nature
Global Water Challenge
Mobilizing collective action to deliver clean water for all
@Global Water Challenge (GWC) is proud to recognize the work of @Texan by Nature (TxN), an organization whose mission is to advance conservation that is beneficial to people, prosperity and natural resources. TxN partners with conservation groups and businesses, acting as an accelerator for conservation groups and a strategic partner for businesses.
Through the Cargill Currents North America program, GWC is partnering with TxN on two projects in the Texas Panhandle – one focusing on watershed restoration and the other on water conservation.
To support watershed health and restoration, TxN Nature is assisting the Texas Playa Conservation Initiative (TxPCI) in educating landowners about playas – shallow wetlands that play a vital role in groundwater recharge and recruiting them to participate in a playa conservation program. The project aims to recruit 50 new landowners with more than 800 acres of playas to be restored.
TxN is also addressing water availability for communities by supporting the Texas Rural Water Association (TWRA) to test for leaks in rural water systems, determining current levels of loss and pinpointing areas of concern. This project is allowing communities to make informed decisions on pipe replacement needs and providing water conservation education and opportunities for water customers.
