Improving Performance and Accelerating Growth... coming back from depression and divorce.

Improving Performance and Accelerating Growth... coming back from depression and divorce.

It was lovely to see a former client this morning but they asked me a question which I couldn't answer... "What's next for you?"

Coming back from a twelve month break I have realised there is so much waffle and bluster in my industry!?Most coaches and consultants (whether they are personal or business) have no real life experience around what their clients are facing, most have no comprehensive training as a Coach, and most 'business coaches' have never started or even managed a business!

So the question I must find the answer to is do I want to get back into the murky marketing tactics my industry has adopted or find another way.

So, what do I do?

I help people improve their performance and grow their ideas... either personally or in their business.?

I..

  • have 20 years experience in people management and personal development
  • have 15 years experience in starting and growing businesses and charities.
  • am a QUALIFIED Coach (specialising in emotional intelligence and peak performance)
  • a NLP Master Practitioner
  • a ILM certified Manager
  • a Technology of Participation and Appreciative Inquiry facilitator
  • am a qualified SROI and Social Accounting and Auditing Practitioner
  • have extensive experience in building and rebuilding teams, improving organisational cultures and creating systems that amplify success.?

Over the years I have achieved many great things and I look back on them with massive pride and gratitude, but they are in the past, now it's time to move forward.

I have been 'self employed' for years now but I still sometimes miss the feeling of being 'part of something' so I have, on occasion taken on a employment offer where the business or charity is interesting enough and they would prefer me to be 'on their books'

Throughout the 'employed' periods of my career I have always got off to a flying start, achieving rapid and meaningful positive change often in ways the existing management couldn't comprehend or implement themselves.

But then... I say something or do something stupid!

It was never intentional, malicious or negligent but I somehow found a way of saying something or doing something that other people did not interpret the way I meant it... and that is my fault!

So, when this happened for the third time I decided to get some professional help, this helped me realise that sometimes what I am thinking would be ill advised to be actually said and I must take a little more time to come up with a way of making my point a little more delicately (by reflecting and not just answering on the spot), this I now embrace in everything I do.

I now celebrate the fact that i'm an introvert (and because of this bring amazing insights to any organisation) and yes, I have periods of depression (which give me a window into peoples lives when they are at their lowest and a practical understanding of how to help them back). I make no excuses for this... it's who I am and partially why I am so good at what I do.

And then...

2018 was a REALLY bad year for me, divorce and depression explain it succinctly enough! For once I listened to my doctor I took twelve months off and spent this time reflecting on what I have achieved in my life so far and what I want to do next.

It's been twelve months... so now i'm back!

So, what next for me?

To be blunt, I want earn my living by helping people. I believe that the coaching and consultancy industry has lost its way and is starting to behave like a 'get rich scheme' which over promises and under delivers.

I am proud that I posses the skills and the experience to absolutely help someone improve their performance and grow towards reaching their dreams and goals. This ability has come from years of investment in time and money to hone and master the art and science of coaching... too many people marketing themselves as a coach these days simply aren't up to the task, they read a book or attend a short generic training (normally on line) and they think they have earned the right to call themselves a coach, it is an embarrassment and to be blunt wholly irresponsible of them to be mis-selling what they are offering as coaching.

So, I want to earn my living by helping people... This could be by attracting new clients to work with me via www.AndyJackson.com or www.SocialLeaders.com or by finding a business or charity who wants someone who is supremely passionate about working towards excellence, absolutely able to help people become their very best and who are willing to give someone coming back from depression a new challenge.

If you are still reading and think we should talk, send me a message or email [email protected] it could be the best decision you make this year!

Here's a few things to watch to help understand what someone like me brings to the table...

Great article. And I am glad you survived a divorce and depression. To your point of "I believe that the coaching and consultancy industry has lost its way and is starting to behave like a 'get rich scheme' which over promises and under delivers.", you said it best, especially on LI everyone is a coach with minimal training, possibly online, no real achievements. Yesterday I wrote on a post that coaches are crotches for the most part. Welcome back! :)
