Improving Local Health and Well Being with Wheelchairs

Per Chris Bell, Senior Director of Development, Family House provides a special “home away from home” for patients and their families who must travel to Pittsburgh for medical care. Many of these guests arrive not fully prepared for what all their medical care will entail. Family House keeps two wheelchairs on hand for its guests to use while they are lodging here. For example, many may check in without their own wheelchair, yet find that they are in need of one during their stay with Family House following the medical treatment or procedure they’ve just undergone.

Over time and after heavy usage, these important medical items break down and need to be replaced. Global Links recently donated two wheelchairs to Family House as they are long standing community partners and needed to replace older wheelchairs in need of repair. Chris Bell shared that this donation will help to ensure that the critical need for wheelchairs will continue to be met in the weeks and months ahead. Wheelchairs help provide for better health and well being as well as mobility.
