Improving Interviews To Accelerate Your Job Search

Improving Interviews To Accelerate Your Job Search

You compete against a lot of other candidates now that the job market is in recovery ... 80M currently employed workers changing jobs in 2021 + 8M unemployed, all competing for 9M advertised jobs.

How can your interviews accelerate your job search, when competing against many other qualified competitors?

By the time you get to the interview stage, employers have already seen that you meet minimum requirements from your resume.

That's why during interviews, employers look for different things than qualifications, no matter what level of position you're applying for - C-level, executive, management, experienced staff, or entry level.

To improve your interviews, you've got to give employers what they're looking for - But first you need to know what they want. This depends on where the interview is in the hiring process:

  1. Preliminary Interviews:?Conducted by HR or an admin, preliminary interviews are used to screen out candidates based on truthfulness of resume, personality, and salary requirements. Some organizations also use skills or psychological tests to screen out additional candidates. While being truthful and staying within salary budgets, if you can also show that you're more than just qualified (since they see many candidates that meet minimum requirements), you're likely to be recommended to advance in the hiring process.
  2. Hiring Manager Interviews:?Hiring managers expect that HR has done their job, so all of the candidates they see are qualified. To advance past a 1st hiring manager interview, you need to prove you're far better than just qualified - that you understand and have already solved the hiring manager's key problems and have improved team/department performance.
  3. Advanced/Finalist Interviews:?Hiring managers want to prove the candidates they already knew, trust and want on their team (their top 2-3 choices) should get the offer, but also look for a backup in case their top choices turn an offer down. The hiring manager may also have to gain consensus with boss/peers/team, so they'll need to sell you as the best pick to others (even if the others haven't met you). You need to create an emotional hiring manager response to make hiring managers think "I need you on my team". Additionally, you'll need to demonstrate impact you've created for past employers, so the hiring manager will want to sell you as the top choice while giving them the ammunition to succeed.

The candidates who struggle in their job search and lose opportunities when they're qualified almost always have this in common - They don't do a good job of selling themselves beyond being qualified. I see this in almost all resumes and hear it in almost all interviews. As a recruiter, these are the candidates I don't recommend to hiring managers.

This is because the story you tell yourself about your career is based on responsibilities, qualifications, tasks and job descriptions ... rather than on impact. It's also because you rely on publicly available information (job descriptions, company websites, and Google) that reflect past needs, while hiring managers' needs change all the time.

To accelerate your job search against many qualified candidates, you need to do more of what's important to employers (they don't care how many resumes you've sent to others).??

I'll teach you changes you can make to your resume, interview and job search strategy, so you'll increase your interview effectiveness and accelerate your job search during a highly competitive job market recovery.

This is the 3rd job market recession/recovery cycle I've recruited/coached through, so I've seen first hand what resume and job search strategies succeed for job seekers during recovering job markets. I've also seen mistakes candidates make, causing their recovery job searches to fail. I've been through this before and know what works and what doesn't.

That's why numerous job seekers who work with me have already gotten job offers every week since mid-March 2020.

As a top national recruiter who reads hundreds of resumes per day, who has helped hundreds of thousands of candidates in their job search, and seen thousands of employers' job search processes from the inside, I've got a different perspective than most career coaches.

I see that most job seekers do essentially the same things, even when they think they are job searching differently. I also see most job seekers were taught search methods that eliminate them from consideration, because they conflict with the employer's hiring process.

But I've been teaching job seekers to accelerate their job searches for 14 years by using non-traditional resume/job search strategies that demonstrate impact rather than just being average. I'll show you how to accelerate your job search so you can find a job fast by understanding employers' point of view and hiring processes ... and using this understanding to beat your competition.

(I'm not just a career coach. I've also been a top national recruiter for the last 17 years ... so you'll get advice from an insider's point of view.)

Let me show you what you can do now to change your job search and resume so you can find a job fast, even if you're between jobs, over 40, trying to change careers/industry/location, if your industry is in decline/consolidation, trying to overcome long term career gaps, family leave, find a remote job, turnaround your job search or other tough to solve job search problems.
