Improved Business Relations in Two One-Minute Steps
1) I owed some info on a project to a person who was doing some work for me. It (I) took longer than hoped. My error was not providing the other person status updates along the way. They had to inquire. All I had to do/say in that case was, “I’m on it—I’ll have it to you by tomorrow…”.
Provide Brief Status Updates. One-minute. Big difference.
2) When expecting deliverable(s) from someone else, be sure to provide clear expectations, stage gates and due dates. The other party will pay more attention to what needs to be done (and by when) if they know exactly what needs to be done (by when).?
Clearly communicate expectations, stage gates and due dates. One-minute. Big difference.
What can you do in the next minute that will help get something done (or at least buy some time)? ???
