A slow, tragic demise or time to celebrate a life well lived? Which will you choose?
If you were to experience how you’d feel towards the end of your life for a day right now, and the consequences of years of choices meant that this experience was less than pleasant, would you make some changes to your lifestyle today?
I think it’d feel like a ‘second chance’ and yes most of us would invest in ourselves and learn what we needed to allow ourselves the luxury of taking our health and agility for granted for longer.
I’m sure we’d be very grateful for our mobility and enjoy the simple luxuries of being able to take ourselves to the toilet and make ourselves a drink and something to eat easily. We’d appreciate those simple pleasures a great deal, if we experienced the lack of them for a short while.
So, at the end of your human experience on this Earth, how do you want to feel?
We’re advised to give our bodies the best chance of remaining functional by eating a minimum of 5 x 80g portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Preferably include a variety of 40 different fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds in a week, to give us the nutrients we need to grow, repair and remain healthy physically.
We know that staying active and physically fit is also a good idea. From age 30, we should increase the weight strengthening exercises as our bodies natural skeletal muscle mass and strength deteriorates.
Well, what about our Mental Fitness?
I recently visited a ward within a hospital that cares for senior citizens needing medical care. It didn’t take long for me to hear the fears of the patients in their seemingly random outbursts. One lady feared people were trying to take something from her that she wasn’t prepared to give. She believed someone had stolen her bike and screamed in terror many times because she felt she was under attack from someone/something. Another wanted someone to take her home, I believe home = safety and therefore she wasn’t feeling ‘safe’ where she was. The lady I was there to visit, believed she was invisible and that nobody cared for her, even though I was there holding her hand.
I saw a direct correlation immediately between our ‘human needs’ (to feel safe, lovable/loved and valued/important) and the fears we listen to daily throughout our lives when our brain shows us evidence to the contrary i.e all the doubts we experience when we have the ‘I’m not enough’ thoughts. If we believe our thoughts, rather than understand them fully. If we keep them hidden; try to distract ourselves by being ‘busy’; tell ourselves to ‘think positively’ and ignore them, we will end up a victim to the power these thoughts have over us in the end.
My observations have led me to the conclusion that these 'old fears' just become louder and louder as we age. At some point, if we don’t listen to them, understand them for what they are, process and release them with love, we will have no choice but to feel the depths of the pain they have the power to cause. We will experience them physically as pain and emotionally as pain. At this point, they can seem so very real it will be a lot more challenging to release them.
I urge you to become mentally fit now. The longer you wait, the louder and more real the fears can become.
Appreciate the simple luxuries I spoke of earlier and do all that is within your power to give yourself the best chances to remain physically fit and mentally fit. This will require an investment of time, money and energy in ‘you’, you are your most precious asset after all.
1.????put good quality, nutritious foods into your body

2.????do physical activities that allow you to be aerobically fit and strengthening exercises too. If possible, choose something that brings you joy.
3.????Find support to increase your mental fitness.
Become aware of the fact that we’re always only ever coming from one of two places: ‘love’ or ‘fear’. Notice which of the two is motivating you in any moment of any day. Learn whatever you feel you need to learn so that you can comfortably choose ‘love’ more than ‘fear’ regularly. Then you’ll know you’re becoming ‘mentally fit’.
Choose your destination, don’t allow yourself to be taken somewhere you’d rather not go. I do not want you to have regrets and wish things were different from what they are.
Take action and do the work, find someone you believe in, that can support you in a way you’re comfortable with.
I combine teaching and coaching to empower people to become the leader they wish they had in my Learn 2 Lead program.
Leadership for me, is the opposite to being a victim: know that you’re the cause and effect; 100% responsible for everything in your reality. Your reality is a reflection of your internal world so I feel it’s important for us all to know what’s going on back there! I’ll take you behind the scenes of your mind so you can fully understand ‘you’. The magic is in the science and it's my gift to create a safe environment in which you can explore and learn. I'll make the complex simple and fun. You’ll understand the neuroscience so you gain the freedom of choice. You’ll also understand the impact on your physical health: we’re all walking, talking pharmacies, constantly releasing drugs into our bodies in accordance with our emotional state. You need to take charge on the regularity and doses you’re administering. There’s all this a much more when you Learn 2 Lead.
