Improve Performance - Get outdoors!

Hitting and exceeding KPI’s might sound easy enough and initially when in a new role and while enthusiasm is at a high this isn’t an overly complicated equation. Over time however, and much like a car in need of a service, we wear down and begin to tire. Although unlike a car which has been hit by mechanical fatigue, we succumb to mental tiredness, and on occasions monotony takes away the gloss of a new role, replacing it with boredom.

I don’t proclaim to be an expert in this field; however, experience has proven to me and to those that I have worked with for 30+ years that family, friends, a holiday or a hobby can make all the difference. I find a trip into the mountains with a camera reinvigorates the mind, body and soul. Searching for, finding and photographing a stunning little Pink Robin (pictured) is exhilarating, creating enough of a spark to see out another working week.

Nature has a way of stripping off the stresses and excess baggage which have accumulated during the working week, reinvigorating the soul and returning us to a place of Zen. Doing so with those that matter to us makes it an even more memorable experience. It reminds us of just how big the world is, and what we miss out on seeing if we do not take the time to be a part of the bigger picture. Have you ever seen a gorgeous little pink bird in the wild?

The next time you feel as though you are hitting a wall, or struggling with repeating the stellar results which you achieved the previous quarter, remember to take a ‘time out’. Albert Einstein was quoted as saying that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”. This ‘rings’ true for many of us and is a sure fire way of falling foul of burnout, and thus a simple change will often yield different results.
