Do you want to communicate better in all areas of your life?and have more positive and meaningful conversations?
Yup, me too.?I've worked on this for the past 20 years. 200 plus hours of training, over100 books read, and 10,000 hours of practice it has not been easy! I want to save you some time!
Communication either makes or breaks EVERYTHING
Can you relate to the following? Do you think about having meaningful and productive connections with the people that matter to you??
Then enters reality.?You mean well and think you are sharing information in the best way possible only to find you were misunderstood or only a part of the message was received. Or, maybe you feel like you have said the same thing over and over and still there is confusion.
For me, there were times I felt like I was on the set of Ground Hog?day repeatedly wishing for better communication and still experiencing miscommunication.
Well about 9 years ago I had a valuable training that changed my life forever. I was introduced to Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI was a game changer. I will warn you it is super easy but takes lots of practice.
I use the two skills I will share below with you EVERY SINGLE DAY! They help me have better communication in all aspects of my day! The coolest part... when I find myself experiencing miscommunication I come back to these two skills and just like magic I AM COMMUNICATING.

I want to share with you 2 simple skills that will revolutionize the way you communicate with others.
1.?Ask lots of open-ended questions.??The best way to get to know someone's viewpoint is to ask relevant open-ended questions.??Trust me. Sounds stupid simple but it works. Take it on a test drive- when you encounter a misunderstanding or miscommunication ask the person you are speaking to some open ended questions. One of my favorites is "What is your understanding of the information I just shared?"
2.?Reflect what you are hearing.??Make sure you are understanding the person you are speaking to by repeating or summarizing what they say and get confirmation that you are understanding.?This is such a wonderful and simple way to build trust.?When someone feels heard they will trust and share more!! Which is what you are after because?the more information you have the more you can connect and communicate in an effective way.
That's it! SIMPLE- open-ended questions and reflecting what you are hearing.?This is powerful stuff.?Don't believe me??Try it.?
