“Imposter syndrome is very real for me, especially considering the privilege I carry within the community...” | An Interview With Christina Garcia

Meet Christina Garcia, Impact Executive Assistant and Social Media Co-Director

We interviewed Christina to hear more about why she chose to work with Impact and what LGBTQIA+ Pride Month means to her.

Let’s start with you telling us a bit about who you are and what you do.

I am Impact’s Executive Assistant and Social Media Co-Director. I work to coordinate the CEO’s schedule and support my colleagues in doing the work they do, as well as creating and posting content for the company socials and tracking the analytics.

What made you decide to work with Impact?

I was looking to work with a company that was more aligned with my personal values, specifically one that works to support women and other marginalized groups. Impact was also in need of a highly organized individual for their scheduling and admin needs, and the timing worked out great for us both. Having a personal relationship with Lucy, I knew that her passion for her work was genuine and that she would be an employer I could trust which was very important for me given my history working in the restaurant industry.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I really enjoy the organizational aspect of it. Making lists, keeping things tidy, and maintaining structure brings me deep satisfaction, both professionally and in my personal life.

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month! What does Pride Month mean to you?

For me personally, my relationship to Pride Month is currently evolving. This is my first June where I comfortably consider myself a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, so I am shifting my relation to Pride from the outside to within. Imposter syndrome is very real for me, especially considering the privilege I carry within the community, as well as the way our society often views bisexuality as a “phase” or not real altogether. While ultimately, I hope that one day we won’t need to commemorate oppressed groups in general, I know that the work it will take to get to that point is critical and not to be overlooked. I will keep learning about how to use my privilege to help make real change for those in this community who regularly face violent discrimination.

What are your 3 biggest passions?

The 3 things that truly light me up the most are astrology, activism (specifically animal welfare, intersectional feminism, and environmentalism), and vegan cooking/baking. I also really love how all my passions connect with each other in nuanced ways that might not be seen at first.
