Imposter syndrome is good for you.
I love being out of my comfort zone. I like pushing people out of theirs!
Often what we want is on the other side of what you are avoiding! People want to be known for something but are reluctant to tell the world what they are good at - sound familiar?
Asking yourself for a very honest answer to the question of what do I want? - is a great start. Brainstorm with yourself what you could do to get yourself closer. Then comes the hard bit… moving in the direction of your dream.?
This requires courage. You will need to get uncomfortable. You will need to push yourself or find someone who can get in behind and give you a shove! One of my favourite strategies is to chase being in a room where you don’t feel good enough.
In 2014 I joined a business school. I wanted to be better. I wanted to improve. I wanted to be stretched. I was scared. The first day I left the room crying. Everyone felt cleverer. Everyone seemed to have their shit together.
The only way to get better was to be better. I threw myself into work. Into doing hard things. Into learning new things. Into doing things that were uncomfortable.
It took six months for me to feel like I was in the right room.

I then decided I no longer wanted to be in the room, I wanted to present to the room. I threw up before I went on stage. I nailed the presentation. I was seen differently after that.
I started teaching in the room. I had more moments of feeling not good enough than I was comfortable.
In 2020 I became the CEO. From a scared student to CEO. It was quite a journey. I learnt a lot - mostly about myself. None of it was easy. There were times when I thought I couldn’t carry on.?But I did. I leant into the discomfort.
We need to get comfortable with discomfort. We can do hard things. We are capable of so much more than we think.
Do some scary stuff.
Put yourself into growth situations.
Stretch what you think is possible.
Dress up, show up, grow up.
Become who you have always wanted to be!
Lisa O'Neill I love your no-nonsense way of approaching life and business...."Do some scary stuff. Put yourself into growth situations. Stretch what you think is possible. Dress up, show up, grow up." It made me smile. Great stuff!! It reminded me of a video I posted yesterday (running with my son) with a similar sentiment about how we need to 'Just keep doing'. https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/michaellicenblat_resilience-salesresilience-bounceback-activity-7185742192584409090-UVxr?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

7 个月Couldn’t agree more Lisa O'Neill! It’s the reframe I share with all of my coaching clients - feeling like an imposter means you’re doing something new, stretching yourself, on the edge. I’ve also come to frame it as “imposter thinking” it’s not a syndrome we’ve been diagnosed with or need to be stuck - it’s a thinking process we can shift and rewire in our brains. Your story is so inspiring Lisa! Huge kudos to your growth!
