As with most any cause or movement we wish to support, especially those of a grand scale, we may feel the urge to help out, but really feel useless in doing so because it may appear that (1) the problem is too big for us to pursue alone or (2) our efforts really won’t amount to much. But they will, especially when it comes to fighting human trafficking
According to crs.org, there are a few ways you can effectively join in the fight. First of all, you can learn more about the issue overall. Educate yourself. Understand the issue. Don’t allow the issue of human trafficking to be pushed to the corners. Yes, the number of convictions for human trafficking is rising, but those convictions are not in proportion to the extent of the problem. Why?? It is largely due in part to the lack of anti-trafficking legislation in some countries. Or, perhaps there is legislation, but law enforcement officials and prosecutors are unfamiliar with how to enforce it. In other cases, victims are simply unwilling to cooperate with the criminal justice system due to fear of threats from their traffickers.
Further, if you see something, then say something. Be a voice for those who cannot or will not speak up.? If you witness what you suspect is a form of human trafficking or any other form of exploitation, let your voice be heard. Be the light for others in a world that continues to remain dark..
