Another remarkable Pet Wellness Day hosted by the Better Neighbor Project in Los Angeles!

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the entire community for contributing to the success of this event. We have so much gratitude to Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez and Senator Maria Elena Durazo for hosting us at Cypress Park and Recreation Center.?

Our team of dedicated partners, volunteers, and staff provided free hygiene and wellness services to 326 pets, registered 114 microchips, created 85 pet ID tags, and distributed 430 bags of pet food. Over 150 pets were also signed up for free spay and neuter services through MFA’s Spay & Neuter Initiative.?

Special acknowledgment is extended to Weruva for their generous pet food donation and Greater Good Charities for their contribution of 100 pet beds. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to provide these resources and foster a sense of community for pet owners in need.

MFA Champions Spay and Neuter Initiatives

On September 17th, MFA’s Spay & Neuter Initiative Program Manager Jana Brennan presented a public testimony to the Board of LA Animal Services (LAAS) Commissioners in support of a unified mission with our animal welfare partners to tackle the spay and neuter backlog in Los Angeles' six city shelters. MFA recently increased ongoing grant funding to the Community Animal Medicine Project (CAMP) to specifically focus on expediting spay and neuter procedures for the waitlisted adopted animals at North Central and East Valley shelters. Jana also emphasized MFA's commitment to providing long-term solutions and partnerships to LAAS, which will include continued funding to high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter organizations and grant programs aimed at increasing access to veterinary care for shelter animals and pet owners in the community.???

We are incredibly proud of Jana who champions this initiative. In partnership with The Robert and Erika Brunson Fund, MFA made a historic $1 million dollar grant to CAMP in early 2024 to support the construction of a state-of-the-art high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter training clinic in Los Angeles.?
