An Important Skill That Today's Troubled Teenager's do not Possess
One of the most important and useful skills that an individual should possess is a great deal of “Self-Discipline,” which is defined as being either the correction or government of one’s self for the sake of making an improvement; even though most individuals will acknowledge its importance, regardless, still there are very few individuals who make the effort to strengthen their “Self-Discipline.” The Bible says in, 2 Tim 1:7, 7 for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. (NRSV)
Self-Discipline, contrary to common belief held by most individuals, does not carry the meaning of being harsh towards oneself, nor living both a limited and restrictive lifestyle. Self-discipline also to possess self-control, which is a sign of possessing inner strength and control of oneself, their actions, and their reactions. Self-discipline gives you the power to have the ability to be able to stick to your decisions as well as being able to follow them through, without changing your mind, and is, therefore, it is one of the most important requirements for an individual to be able to achieve their goals. By possessing this skill allows you to be able to persevere with not only your decisions, but also your plans until you are finally are able to accomplish them.
The possession of this skill enables you to persevere with your decisions and plans until you accomplish them. Self-discipline also manifests itself in the form of inner strength, helping you to be able to overcome addictions, procrastination and laziness, and to also to have the ability to be able to follow through with whatever you do. By having self-discipline you will have the ability to tell your so-called “friends” no when they want to do something that will cause you to be arrested and potentially incarcerated. Self-discipline allows for an individual to be able to know how to stay out of prison, because they now have the knowledge and wisdom to make the right choices, choose the right friends, and also to think about the consequences of their actions before they go through with them instead of after they are being arrested for their actions. Self-discipline is considered to be one of the main characteristics, which enables the individual to be able to reject both the instant gratification that comes from for example, selling drugs due to the fact that they are able to make a large sum of money in a short period of time without having to work hard and allows them to be able to purchase whatever they want; plus also whatever gives them pleasure, in favor of some type of greater gain, which they have work hard for a long period of time in order to be able to gain what they want. In the Bible the book of Proverbs points to a better way of parenting as it is written in, Proverbs 3:11-12, 11 My child, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. (NRSV) Self-discipline is considered to be one of the most important components that lead to an individual’s success. It expresses itself in one of the various following ways: (1) through perseverance an individual gains the ability not to give up, despite failure and setbacks; (2) possessing the ability to resist both distractions and as well as temptations; and finally (3) trying over and over again until you finally able to accomplish the goals you have said for yourself.
During your lifetime an individual will face various challenges and obstacles while they are on the path to success as well as achievement, and in order to rise to the occasion, the individual must act with both persistence and perseverance, which requires for the individual to have self-discipline. By possessing this particular skill will lead to the individual gaining both self-confidence and self- esteem, which consequently will bring the individual both happiness and as well as satisfaction. There are various important aspects that can contribute to an individual’s achievements as well as their joy, peace, and serenity.

8 年Brain this was a wonderful article, but you left out that it is a fruit of the Spirit of God through Christ. A natural man cannot make himself have self-discipline, if it is natural, God will always give you a circumstance that reveals you do not possess Him is why you do not have self-discipline. It is a fruit of the Spirit that He gives all of His reborn children through them giving up themselves. If a natural person tries by their own effort to gain self-discipline they are like a hamster running on a wheel getting no where, and I believe that is why many young people and mature people don't truly possess it, because they haven't received the person that can give it to them from the cross, the Holy Spirit through their Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ
