There should be at least 4 sellers for a wholesale listing since less than 4 does mean it could be only brand selling it with its own name or a DBA name and might have given a single seller an exclusive right to sell that Asin alongside the brand itself.

There is no limit on the maximum number of sellers and also Amazon presence doesn't matter if the buy box is rotating well enough. In case a listing has Amazon dominance one can still sell that Asin only if he can get enough stock level and sell at a cheaper price as compared to Amazon and yet get profits.

Also one thing is even more important that %age in buy box rotation is that demand supply gap which can be assessed by check sales and the overall FBA combined stock level. If you see a gap in demand and supply once should definitely enter that listing. For example an ASIN has 50 sellers but overall their combined stock is 150 and the sale for that Asin is 400 so I can see a gap of 250units to fulfil the market demands and can add myself as a seller in such situations.

We don't recommend competition with Amazon because 95% students have a very little budget under 5000 USD and it's their all time savings so mostly risk taking isn't viable.
