An important matter to keep in mind before purchasing the iron H2S scavengers!
Generally speaking, there're two type of iron desulfurizers or H2S scavengers. One is the normal iron oxide desulfurizer, and the other is the iron hydroxide FeOx(OH)3-2x desulfurizer. Although their components, specifications and even appreance may look different, their H2S removal ability can both be revealed by a data called H2S breakthrough capacity.
The H2S breakthrough capacity is usually expressed as a percentage, such as 20%. It means under normal circumstances, everything 100kgs desulfurizer can effectively absorb 20kgs H2S in operation. Before absorbing 20kgs H2S, the iron oxide or iron hydroxide H2S scavengers don't need to be replaced or changed, and usually the outlet gas still meets the required H2S content, such as 100ppm at this time.
Different from H2S breakthrough capacity, there's also saturated H2S capacity, which is also expressed as a percentage. It refers the most ideal, theoratical H2S removal ability of H2S scavengers, saying the quantity every 100kgs product can remove when the inlet and outlet H2S is exactly the same. Moreover, it also takes several regenerations into consideration to get a much higher data, such as 50% or even 60%.
Some companies would confuse the concepts and mislead the clients to promote their products, while it really makes no sense in real operation... Be careful of the trap, and always keep the difference in mind before purchaing the iron oxide and iron hydroxide H2S scavengers!
