Is it important to just "follow your passion" ?

Everyone tells us to follow our passion, including me, I advocate following our passion and practiced it by quitting years of Engineering to follow my passion and becoming a Motivational Public Speaker

But is the magic in just following our passion?

Magic definitely happens when we follow our passion but is it "enough" along the way?

To take this from the "romantic" cliche to a more solid realization of what someone can do in that regards, I believe a key to manifesting magic in doing what you love is

1- Being highly skilled at it

2- The market craves it

3- Grit

My opinion is, passion is necessary, but so is being very skilled in that passion you're presenting to the world that needs it. And, MOST importantly, is your Grit; this is when the breakthrough and the Magic happen and when all your efforts manifest in a very new qualitative state of success, or what they call "over-night" success.

Otherwise how can we explain it to people that followed their passion yet "failed"?

Maybe they weren't skilled or didn't develop enough skill for that craft, or the world didn't "need" that product/service, or they just didn't persist along the way to see the manifestation of what they love after years of patience, passion & perseverance.
