When working with folks a shared drive, file naming and organization can always be a point of contention. But recently there have been new AI developments that are making file management much easier.
First, Dropbox's tech team recently wrote a post about how they're using AI to recognize dates within a file's name, and it's harder than you would think.
Imagine being able to name a file "Annual Report - 2023-12-31.pdf" and have your file system automatically recognize that date and allow you to sort / filter on it. It might seem like a small feature to build, but those type of problems are more manageable to solve using AI. And for users there is a high degree of utility, so it's a big win.
But if you're someone who dreams bigger, then you might be interested in a completely different approach. Last year, Google launched its Document AI Warehouse as a product that allows you to "store, search, organize, govern and analyze documents." And next week, Microsoft is having a "Future of File Management" event to cover some new announcements around OneDrive including things like "better organization and simpler collaboration".
