Important Development Tools And A Good Foundation

Playing with blocks develops motor skills, hand eye coordination, spatial reasoning, the ability to shift focus from one thing to the next, language skills, thinking creatively, social skills, and even helps to create minds for future better home builders. Well if we think on the cognitive benefits of children playing with blocks its easy for us to go to some store or even a swap meet and find some blocks for children to play with. They not only get to build these reasoning skills but they also get lessons from mom and dad on responsibility and safety, "Learn to pick up your toys after you play with them please!" These are all good child and parent interactions that need to happen to produce responsible adults in later life so a supervisor doesn't have to babysit to get the employees to reduce arguing and perform the tasks or jobs they are paid for. But in early life what if parents don't see the necessity for playing with blocks or what if the child doesn't have a nice floor to develop these necessary skills?

Someone put some thought into framing the walls of this home to support a roof. Not that it would pass a building inspector here or would appear in a home magazine but when looking at the inside of homes the first thoughts should be "what does it do for a child's brain development or health?" I don't recommend a night for you in a home like this even if we left the light on because the mosquitoes at night probably would not make you recognizable in the morning. There is no refrigeration in the homes and no place to store food from the rats. The buckets we share do help with bringing water into the home or washing clothes by hand. How would a child develop skills with blocks or toys on floor level? Probably there was an absence of this developmental knowledge with the person who built this home. Maybe the idea that should have been important to the builder of the above home is that a good foundation is necessary for healthy child development.

It is important for children to have a nice floor to perform learning skills on. In our world of supply and demand this is a normal expectation. We have medical journals to read about the needs of child development that enhances common sense. It's common here that everyone expects a home with a nice floor. Education is good for allowing the brain to grow up with the necessary knowledge for good quality living and promoting children to enjoy performing these necessary developmental task.

Children learn soft skills and constructive team work from playing with blocks together at early ages. The human brain enjoys successful learning and even more successful interaction together when doing things positively constructive. It would be unique when you observe adults that frequently argue about performing simple task if you had a time machine to go back into their childhood an observe what spatial, team work, and soft skill building task were missing in their lives. (BTW: These tile floors are in our development and learning center.)

Allow me to go back to the books. It is very important and the sooner the better to get good instructive information into the brain. If we don't have someone to motivate and help us learn in earlier years there is hope for us in later years to acquire good knowledge. Accumulated knowledge if it is a history of good constructive knowledge is easier for us to build on. If our common sense was derived on misleading facts and assumptions then it is harder for us to overcome what we establish as beliefs. We can take for granted that everyone can turn on and turn off the switch of a portable computer so get rid of the books, do away with inspiring children to do lengthy reading, and think everything is going progressively good until you loose your cell phone or have a long term power failure. Then what?

Well it's a little different than your nice comfortable office with a good cushioned office chair but this is doable! Chop down a few bamboo poles, get a tarp, a scale, build a few tables, climb some trees and get a few coconuts. There you have a brand new office. Hmmm.. sounds like a problem here? I think you get my point. The access and acquisition of knowledge in early stages is important but do you think just because we live in a modern world there is an exemption for our responsibilities to interact in child development. Or can we just leave this to convenience and hand the kid an electronic game to keep them out of our hair. Listening to the teachings of physicians and researchers who study human brain development will result in making parents lives harder or easier in their futures.

We can still learn a lot about the importance of child interaction from these homes that lack sufficient food and basic needs. During times of hunger the only thing a mother has to offer her child is sympathy, love, and compassion until food is found or some kind heart brings it to their door. I don't promote child hunger at all to learn these compassionate lessons because child hunger is cruel on both the body and the brain. Research does reflect why these children can learn to speak two or three languages by the time they are eight years of age without computers, books, and learning tools. It is the compassionate frequent interaction from parents and caregivers that enhances language learning. Even teachers in these conditions have a good practice of compassion because they know what children live without.

We become what we entertain, talk about, and behavior does shape our brains. Children's Compassion Association will be at 700 Keeamoku St, Honolulu, Hawaii, from 9 am to 4 pm tomorrow (Saturday, 12/22/2018). We would enjoy your conversations and input on how important family interaction is with education and child development. The more we talk about the more we will become what we talk about. Thank you.
