As the age old saying goes, time flies – right? Well apart from when you find yourself stuck in a Friday afternoon meeting, dragging your feet through another early morning run (when all you really wanted to do was stay in bed!) or wrapping up once again as the Monday morning forecast predicts yet another breezy, cold week ahead.
Rather than sprinting by as if in some hurried rush, certain moment instead seems to amble by, idly tick-tocking away in an almost agonising sort of way.?
It really is no wonder then that people often refer to this time of year as having long nights and being drawn-out. Even January itself is treated as an everlasting, almost bumper addition of a month, despite only having the same number of days as three other months of the year.
Perhaps it’s down to the reduced daylight hours, the cold air that seems to chill you to the bones or the constant, grey skies, which can give the impression of endlessness and monotony – something that when combined with various other seasonal woes, like having to defrost the car each morning or get on top of laundry, can make many of us feel burnt out.
It may be tempting then to keep your head down and push through, knowing that spring isn’t too far off the horizon. But, as many of us know only too well that just like each season, life is all about balance and taking time to rest and recharge.?
