The Importance of VR Visualisation

The Importance of VR Visualisation

Our latest product allows for 3D designs created in CAD software to be instantly visualised in virtual reality. OBJ files can be easily uploaded to our platform and then viewed and interacted with in a virtual space.

This article takes you through the six main benefits of visualisation in VR.

  • Design approval
  • Multi-user
  • Accessibility
  • Interactive tools and functionality
  • Design sharing – upload and share with anyone
  • Build upon for training

DESIGN APPROVAL

In a company with a number of approval levels, it can be an arduous journey to full sign off. This can be especially difficult with stakeholders who find it difficult to extrapolate what the finished design would look like from looking at images. In this case it is often necessary to create a prototype, adding time and expense to the approval process, especially if several iterations or options are required.

Uploading the 2D images to virtual reality means that stakeholders can see the design as if they are looking at the finished product. The designer can join them in VR, to explain the concepts and designs as if they were in the same room with both the other VR users and the asset.

MULTI-USER

Sharing designs with people in different offices and even different countries can be time consuming and frustrating when relying on emails, phone calls, and screen sharing. The easiest way is to get everyone together in one location to showcase a prototype, but this is costly and time consuming. With Immerse’s VR platform, multiple people from anywhere in the world can join together in virtual reality, either via headsets or web browsers. They can then not only view presentations and talk via web cams, but also explore the designs in VR. Designers can share their exact viewpoints and can interact with the design to show all angles. This gives other users a clear view of the asset as it will be in real life, and give them an opportunity to give meaningful feedback.

ACCESSIBILITY

We understand that not everyone has access to a VR headset, and so our visualisations can also be shared in web browsers. Web viewers can see the virtual scene from a number of static angles, or from the view of anyone in a VR headset. This allows viewers to view the scene as if they were interacting with it themselves, and can talk in real time to everyone else in the session to instruct, question and discuss anything they are seeing.

DESIGN SHARING

Once a design is created, it is often the case that certain aspects can be re-used for future projects or by other departments. Immerse’s library allows assets to be stored and shared with anyone, so multiple designers can collaborate on a single model, or use the existing assets to build new versions and make updates without having to start from scratch.

INTERACTIVE TOOLS AND FUNCTIONALITY

Immerse’s Collaborate Platform comes with a number of in-built interaction tools to use with your 3D models. Individual parts can be selected, highlighted, moved, or hidden by anyone in the VR headset. This allows users to isolate particular pieces for scrutiny or discussion where necessary. As this is incredibly difficult, if not impossible in any other way, VR adds another level of business efficiency.

TRAINING

Once a model has been approved and signed off, virtual reality can still provide business benefits. The model and interactions can be circulated to be used for instruction and training. VR can be used to engage people with a new asset or design model and prepare them for real life interactions. Using our Platform and SDK, interactions and textures can be added to any model that has been imported to make fully functional training models for detailed instruction.

Maybe we can collaborate, I developed a couple of VR visualization apps with very low entry barrier for users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Programmatic%20Modeling%20Consultants%20LLC&hl=en
