Importance of Telling Your Story

Telling your story can change you or change the next person listening to your story, it can give you strength to go on, strength to live on a new path or awaken the dormant giant in someone's life. On the flip side withholding your story can destroy you from the inside (like what climate change is doing to our precious earth, degrading it every passing hour, min and sec) or even suppress the birth of a game changing idea/innovation. A story sticks in the mind longer than a syllogism or a propositional truth claim. And the thing about stories is, we all have one.

I had the privilege of meeting a young girl (name withheld) who actually has got a game-changing #idea which can shape the value systems of today's children. Because of the fire in this young lady's belly, she went on to build a prototype which we tested and i was actually shedding tears as we did. I asked her many questions including why she built this application but at first she was scared to open up because it was too personal for her. I then said to her, i will tell you my story first then you can tell me yours and she agreed. When i told her mine she could actually relate to her's and when i finished she began to tell me her story.

After this encounter i realized that because i opened up to this girl she managed to tell her story which apparently was the reason why she built a game-changing #tech #innovation. I also realized that maybe if i didn't tell her my story she might not have opened up and i would have suppressed launch of her idea. as of now, we are in the process of helping her launch this product and its only possible because she shared her story. Hint: "Sharing your story can open up opportunities for you". Not everyone in this world is prepared to hear your story but remember you don't need everyone's ears but of that one person.
