Importance of SWOT Analysis

Importance of SWOT Analysis

In this episode, we are going to talk about SWOT analysis and the importance of it during your placement journey.

SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Performing a SWOT analysis will help you to discover and take advantage of your strengths and address the weaknesses. Based on the analysis, you can then develop various strategies that can help you in overcoming your weaknesses and in turn improve yourself.

You may come across various hurdles during your journey. For example, when you get rejected by a company, it doesn't mean you're worthless. There must be some reason which you should've foreseen, that caused you to fail. Peruse through the points given in this episode, that highlights the reasons why one might get rejected in an interview. Identify the mistakes that you did and learn not to repeat them in the future.

Self-discovery is the process in which a person is guided through self questioning and examination of one's own thoughts, words, and actions, in order to reach a conclusion regarding who they truly are. So, take a paper and form a grid consisting of two rows and two columns. Name the title of each section as Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats respectively. Firstly, write down your strengths, i.e., the things that you are good at. List all those abilities and characteristics that make you stand out and enhance your competitive advantage. Next, list down your weaknesses, i.e., those characteristics that give disadvantage relative to others. Weaknesses are negative and internal factors that prevent you from succeeding. For example, your poor communication skill might be a weakness. Now, list down the opportunities, i.e., favourable external factors that can give you a competitive advantage. For example, if you have mentioned something in your strengths that is in alignment with the Job Description, you could say how you would use that to create a positive impact at the team or organisational level. Last but not least, write down the threats, i.e., negative external conditions you can't control but can minimise. For example, competition for the job that you want. You can stand out from the crowd by mentioning your unique selling points. Seek reassurance from your interviewer on any aspects of the job description that you're wary or unsure of.

Let's talk about the importance of projects in the next episode.

See you in the next one.

Wish you a great success !
