The Importance of a Strong Vision

The Importance of a Strong Vision

After a fantastic couple of days at the PHCC Connect 2022 national conference, I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of a strong company vision.

Your vision isn’t just about what you do and why you do it.

It’s about your trajectory into the future and solidifying a clear plan of action for long-term growth.

A strong vision is a personalized roadmap of where you’re going, how you’re planning to get there, and what you want your business to look like 5, 10, or even 15 years from now in vivid, clarifying detail.

What obstacles will you face, and how will you overcome them?

What revenue goals do you want to hit?

What does your organizational chart look like?

What kind of office space, vehicles, or training will you need to expand into the vision you see for your company?

We see a lot of businesses falling short of their goals. It’s not because of talent, ambition, or sales. It’s all about the vision (or lack of one).

And…your vision won’t help you if it’s all in your head. If I’ve learned anything along the way, it’s that you can’t do it all on your own.

It helps tremendously to surround yourself with people who have an even more personal connection to that vision than most.

If you have a team, know that they crave direction and leadership. They can help you build a solid foundation to where you want to go if they understand the big picture.

So, your vision needs to be shared in a really tangible, clear, and concise way.

In his book?Vivid Vision, serial entrepreneur and business growth expert Cameron Herold shares a few tips to consider when writing out your company vision:

  1. Pick an exact date 3-5 years from now. It could be 10 am on a Sunday in early October 2026 (you get the idea).
  2. Using the present tense, write a short paragraph about where you are in your business. How many jobs did you need over time to get your average annual sales above $5 million? How did you make that happen? Now, work backward from that point and consider any and all obstacles you might have faced on the way there. Zoom WAY out.
  3. What systems, tools, or processes did you need to establish a solid foundation for your growth? Remember, complexity is the enemy of efficiency. The goal is always to keep simplifying, evolving, and optimizing.

I’ll link his book below if you’re interested in learning more about how you can assemble and communicate a vision that truly gets you where you want to go.

P.S. If you enjoyed this and would like to connect sometime,?here’s a link to my calendar.

Danny Braught thanks for writing and sharing this. It struck me that falling short of targets is likely from lack of clear vision or lack of vision in total. I smiled to think a vision costs nothing but deep reflection.
