The Importance Of Skills And Humility In Building A Successful Future

For the past seven years, I have dedicated my career to the immigration profession, where I’ve had the privilege of interacting with, training, and guiding young people. It’s a role that aligns perfectly with my passion for empowering the next generation. I often find immense joy and energy in knowing that my knowledge and connections can help young individuals unlock their potential. I firmly believe that young people possess tremendous capabilities; all they need is moral support and genuine guidance. With the right encouragement, they can indeed create history.

However, as I have worked with young people, I have become increasingly aware of the emotional and mental challenges they face today. Many struggle with issues that remain unspoken, affecting their mental health and contributing to stress and depression. A significant concern is their quest for a successful career. Despite holding degrees such as MBAs, MTechs, and even PhDs, many young people find themselves unable to secure jobs that allow them to thrive.

The root of this problem is not a lack of job opportunities; rather, it lies in the fact that many young individuals are not adequately prepared to enter the workforce. Degrees serve as a threshold, but true employment comes from one’s potential and skill set. Unfortunately, many young people are caught in a cycle of excessive social media use, where scrolling through endless reels and obsessing over appearances takes precedence over personal growth and development. This fixation on looks and superficiality, coupled with a misinterpretation of what it means to be “modern” and “open-minded,” has led to a troubling mindset.

Some young people equate being modern with owning the latest iPhone, applying cosmetic products, and wearing branded clothing. They often mistakenly believe that displaying arrogance towards their elders and boasting about their lifestyle — without any tangible achievements — makes them open-minded. This mindset is disappointing and concerning.

It is crucial for young people to understand that a successful career is built on a foundation of skills, humility, and a strong character — not merely on appearances or bravado. Modernization should be synonymous with personal achievement and growth, rather than superficial qualities. A prime example of this is Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who embodied the true spirit of modernity. He focused on knowledge and education rather than on looks, serving as an enduring source of inspiration.?

I urge young people to reflect on their lives. Instead of seeking validation through curated social media profiles and indulging in arrogance without any accomplishments, strive to be humble, develop your skills, and aim for significant achievements. Your future depends on the efforts you make today, and true fulfillment comes from contributing to the world around you.
