In the prevailing era, where climate change has become a worldwide concern, the theory of ‘Survival of the fittest’ has undergone a transformative shift, evolving into ‘Survival of the greenest’. This shift has become a key attitude to follow for businesses to survive. Fostering green and sustainable practices across all operations of businesses has innumerable benefits for a company, including making a positive impact on the environment and reducing carbon footprint.

With a multitude of compelling reasons to embrace sustainability, businesses are finding themselves confronted with the critical task of bridging the gap between awareness and action. It is a global reality that most companies acknowledge the significance of sustainability, yet often fall short in converting this awareness into stringent measures. At Mai Dubai, we have been advocating eco-friendly practices across our operations with a particular emphasis on recycling. We are steadfast in our dedication to recycling and have implemented a variety of initiatives to assist in the development of a green economy. We recognise the value of recycling and its role in lowering our environmental footprint, preserving natural resources, lowering pollution and saving energy.

In the beverage industry, integration of recycling into a comprehensive sustainability strategy is imperative, given the daily consumption patterns of products within this sector. Our recyclable bottled water products not only provides access to safe drinking water but also fosters trust among our customers. This trust serves as a catalyst, inspiring individuals to embrace more sustainable habits in their everyday lives. Despite this, some myths still persist, particularly regarding the use of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles, ?is harmful to the environment. On the contrary, PET bottles have a low carbon footprint, use less energy, generate less solid waste, and emit comparatively lesser greenhouse gas than any other material used in the industry. As PET bottles are recyclable, this material does not end up in landfills, adding up to a resourse of other advantages.

It is our responsibility to raise awareness among the future generations on the significance of recycling PET. At Mai Dubai, we go the extra mile to keep pace with the sustainability trends around the world. It is as part of these efforts that we collect PET bottles from our consumers and recycle or reuse them. Furthermore, together with DGrade, a business that makes eco-friendly clothing, we have promoted sustainable practices by recycling our PET bottles into clothing, masks, and bags. In order to transform used PET bottles into fibres, flakes and yarns that may be utilised to make garments, the firm has been assisting us in obtaining used PET bottles from our clients.

In addition to recycling, we have also made significant investments in alternative energy. Since 2019, Mai Dubai's complete production and on-site offices have been powered by sustainable energy thanks to the installation of more than 52,000 rooftop solar power panels. We are exploring further methods to lessen our carbon footprint as part of our approach to assisting the UAE in its mission to reach net-zero emissions. An integral pillar of the UAE's strategy to combat climate change and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions involves the adoption and utilisation of renewable energy alternatives.

Sustainability myths are harmful as they are easy to believe in and can deter people from taking actions to safeguard the environment. Therefore, it has become necessary to conduct research before blindly believing in these false claims.
