One of the best ways to show that you are listening and understanding what someone is saying to you is to ask them questions and respond accordingly. However, using these question tags can be difficult and often leads to misunderstanding on both sides. In this blog, we want to explain how using question tags can make conversations go much smoother for English speakers.
Question tags are a great way to add more depth and context to your conversations in English. They can help you extract more information from your conversations, Building better relationships and making communication smoother.
We usually use Question Tags to ask a question when we think we know the answer (or want the answer to be something in particular) and are asking for confirmation.
Our intonation (voice; pitch) goes up at the end if we are hesitant or uncertain, but if we are more confident, our intonation goes down at the end, like it would for declarative sentences.
The three parts to Question Tags are these:
Repeat the same AUXILIARY VERB from the original clause; with multiple, repeat the first; with none, use a form of ‘do’ balance the positives and negatives finish with a PRONOUN that matches the subject.
An alternate form of Question Tags involves rhetorical questions, which might be expressing irony or imperatives (asking someone to do something). In these cases, do not balance the positives and negatives.
There should be a comma between the first clause and the tag, and the sentence should end with a question mark?(although some imperative rhetorical questions can end with an exclamation mark).

The Importance of Question Tags: A Missing Link in Good Conversations in English
Question tags are a missing link in good conversations in English.?They help to establish and maintain communication by prompting the speaker and listener to consider what they are saying, and whether it is relevant to the conversation.
In a good conversation, the speaker will typically ask questions to get the other person’s opinion or input on something. The listener will then answer the question with an answer, comment, or story.
But question tags can be even more important than that! They keep conversations flowing smoothly by ensuring that both speakers are aware of what has been said, and that the conversation is moving forward.
Conclusion

This can be especially helpful when your listener doesn’t have all the information that you need, or when they want to clarify something that you’ve said.
