The Importance of Pilgrimage

Pilgrimage at its core is about trust. We enter into a journey with an idea or intention, yet how it evolves and where it takes us, what will be revealed is unknown. On a pilgrimage we enter into a heroes journey.

Either by ourselves or with others, we enter into an agreement with the Universe that we know we won’t return the same. This is where trust is so important. It’s trusting that what comes up is for a reason, be it challenges or beautiful experiences.

Trusting that when we step into this, we trust ourselves to face ourselves.

I entered into my recent Bali pilgrimage with the idea, the intent, to shed what was no longer serving me. Many of us have things to let go of as we evolve through life. I’m no different.

I think of our bodies as having a finite amount of space, it’s own ball of magic energy if you will. When we hold on to old stories, old hurts, old worries, we have less and less room for what we do want to carry.

I asked for guidance and then let go.

I knew it would show up in some form, I just didn’t know when or how. It beautifully came to me as mirrors from others.

It’s not necessary to go into details. What’s striking to me upon returning is how little space we give to ourselves to dive deep, to allow our unseen energy we’ve been holding within to rise to the surface and be released.

Each time I had a reaction to something or someone, I looked within. The person or situation reflecting back to me what the Universe wanted me to see within myself.

Through the process of creating space within, it allowed new layers to be revealed.

I received many messages while in Bali, some of which I don’t yet understand. All will be revealed in good time.

Yet what I do know is how important it is to give ourselves the space and grace. We’re taught at a young age to squash our feeling and emotions and thus fill ourselves with layers to later be released. Or not.

This pilgrimage for me was about stepping more deeply into my self and to step more deeply into the unknown before me.

I returned lighter, clearer and even more ready to step into this new chapter of my life.
