The Importance of Performance Management | ?? Ghosting: A Job-Hunt No-Go ??
James Andrews Recruitment Solutions Ltd
Connecting talented candidates across the UK with their ideal roles since 2009
Does your organisation prioritise performance management?
With a recent study* highlighting that 73% of Gen Z employees – aged 16 to 24 – are more likely to leave an organisation if they don’t receive frequent managerial feedback and communication, compared to 52% of other non-Gen Z employees, this week we’re focusing on the importance of performance management processes.
What does the study show?
How can organisations better address the shift in expectations and retain employees?
Here at James Andrews, we know our people are our most valuable asset which is why we emphasise the importance of performance management sessions, appraisals, and managerial feedback for employees at every level of the business.
But how do these regular sessions benefit personal development and business growth? ?
?? Employee Development: Regular appraisals offer a platform for recognising individual strengths and identifying areas for improvement. Through these evaluations, you can tailor training and development programs to empower team members to reach their full potential.
?? Goal Alignment: By setting clear objectives and expectations during appraisals, you're ensuring that everyone is on the same page regarding their responsibilities and the company's overall vision. This alignment boosts team synergy and accelerates our progress towards shared goals.
?? Motivation and Engagement: Feedback is a powerful motivator! Acknowledging the hard work and dedication of team members not only boosts their morale but also fosters a sense of appreciation and loyalty towards the organisation.
?? Performance Improvement: Regular appraisals enable managers to identify any performance gaps and address them promptly. Constructive feedback and coaching during these evaluations help individuals overcome challenges and enhance their efficiency.

?? Halloween might be on the horizon, but ghosting during your job-hunt is never a good idea! ??
Halloween might be right around the corner and while many are busy planning their costumes and decorations ready for the scariest day of the year, there's one spooky phenomenon that's creeping into the job market which is certainly no treat for anyone involved - ghosting.?
So, what exactly is "ghosting" in the context of job hunting? It's when a job seeker suddenly and inexplicably cuts off all communication with a recruitment consultant or potential employer. This can happen at various stages of the hiring process, from initial contact to post-interview follow-ups. While it might seem like a convenient escape from an uncomfortable situation, ghosting recruiters is an approach that can have long-lasting consequences.

Here are just some of the reasons to reconsider the ghostly approach to job-hunting:?
?? Frightful Reputations: Remember, the professional world can be quite small! Recruiters and hiring managers often have connections within the same industry. Ghosting one recruiter could lead to a negative reputation that spreads faster than any spooky ghost story, and it might just come back to haunt you in the future when you least expect it.
?? Lost Opportunities: The job market is competitive!? When you ghost a recruiter, you might be preventing yourself being told about another potentially excellent job opportunity. It's essential to consider the consequences of your actions, not just for the present but for your long-term career goals.
?? Ethical Considerations: Ghosting someone who has invested time in your job search journey shows a lack of respect for the time and effort spent. A simple courtesy of letting the recruiter or client know your decision, even if it's a rejection, is the right thing to do.
?? Better Alternatives: If you're hesitant about a job offer or need more time to make a decision, it's better to communicate your concerns. Recruiters are understanding people and will often try to work with you on a compromise. You could also consider asking for additional time to think about the offer or to gather more information.
So, what’s the alternative??
Throughout your job-hunt, it always pays to be courteous, professional, and respectful in your communication. If you're no longer interested in a position, politely decline the offer or inform the recruiter of your decision. This will help you maintain a positive reputation, ensuring that you're not left with any lingering regrets, and will still hear about other great opportunities.?

1 年I definitely agree! I think in order to grow and feel successful in your role, guidance and feedback from your manager is vital, for me I always want to know what I am doing well, what my strengths are but also where I can improve and identify weaknesses. It's the best way to make sure you're achieving the most in your role.

1 年So frustrating when we get ghosted! Honesty and communication is much appreciated!
Principal Managing Consultant (Housing/Local Government) at James Andrews Recruitment Solutions Ltd
1 年Age old problem but happens all the time unfortunately. A bit of honesty goes a long way these days and we're always less inclined to work on candidates who "ghost" us.
Principal Recruitment Consultant working in the Housing and Local Government sector
1 年Since I have joined James Andrews Recruitment Solutions Ltd I have always loved the daily, weekly and monthly feedback I have received from management as I feel like I am constantly improving on myself rather than letting bad habits set in. I try and implement that process with all new staff coming in to the team now too
Developing customer partnerships through a commitment to continuous improvement
1 年Big supporter of frequent feedback from a manager. I think positive and constructive feedback gets the best out of your staff as long at its delivered in the right way. I also think it goes both ways as some people take constructive criticism better than others. Using professional feedback to your advantage can be such a cheat code to getting ahead in your career.
