The importance of ongoing training for employees.

Today many employers fear that if the company invests in their employees, their employees will become more valuable and the training will make them more attractive to the competition. Truth is: once trained, some may seek opportunities elsewhere. The possibility of losing a team member to the competition will always be there.

The real question is: do you want to grow and develop your team’s skills?

If initial job training with a new employee is key and imperative it is not enough and should only be the first step of a longer-term course. Not only ongoing and regular employee training increases individual productivity but is also an investment in your business.

Making sure your staff is trained with the skills and knowledge they need is crucial to meet business goals, and will ensure that the company remains strong. Let’s not forget that you choose what new skills your staff gains enabling you to target what will help the business’ needs for the present and for the future.

Employees who feel appreciated and challenged through training opportunities may feel more satisfaction toward their jobs.

Even though the risk of losing a team member will always be there, what if training your employees could also make them more loyal to the company?

A recent study on “What Causes Employees’ Happiness” showed that one of the main cause of happiness is “learning new skills”. The time and investment spent by a company in training shows your staff how valuable they are which in return will boost their job satisfaction level and lead to an increased motivation towards their job. The training they get can also lead to opportunities within your organisation and be a source of internal promotion ensuring the correct skillset and knowledge of your business.

Valuing training is also attractive to new talent who will view your business as a learning environment.

And if a business should keep growing, why shouldn’t the employee?
