The Importance of Mentors

The Importance of Mentors

Kirsty Nancarrow in an online mentoring session with Dave Clare from Circle Leadership

Throughout our extensive media careers, we have always taken great pride in mentoring our colleagues and community members.

It is this passion to share our knowledge and skills and empower you to tell your stories that led us to create eMotion Video Training & Production.

We also believe it is important to have good mentors to guide us. Regardless of how old we get, how much experience we have, or how skilled we become, there is always room to improve and reflect with someone who may bring a new perspective, challenge our thinking, share new ways of working, and suggest opportunities for growth.

Both of us have now been through a 12-month mentoring partnership through Inspiring Rare Birds….and we highly recommend the program.

Thank you to our IRB mentors Dave and Sarah, and everyone who has guided us over the years. We will continue to pay it forward.

* Contact us directly to ask about our private courses tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Top Tip - Landscape or Portrait?

How do you hold your phone to film?

It’s worth thinking about WHERE your content is likely to be published before hitting record.

If it’s for Instagram and Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Tik Tok, portrait is best.

Choose landscape if your video is for your website, YouTube, television, or other presentations.

If you’re unsure, film in landscape - but whatever you do, don’t switch half way through your recording!

Reels shoot with Jules and Brandon | Kirsty and Suzie at Bex Finalists night | Mark Melrose from Screen Queensland

GETTING REEL IN PARADISE

We were reminded of how lucky we are to live in such a fantastic part of the world during a recent Reels shoot at Palm Cove for Jules Collins Jewellery.

Jules joined us on the shoot with model Brandon and, combined with a sexy set of wheels from Cairns Luxury Car Hire, we showcased Jules’ fantastic men’s jewellery collection, capturing a tropical vibe and cool city look. Ask us about our Reels packages for your business.

RECOGNITION IN BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Congratulations to the winners of the 2023 Cairns Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. It was an honour to be recognised as finalists in the Innovation Award for the second consecutive year. It was delightful to share the Gala Awards night with so many of our graduates and clients, including the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation, who won the Innovation category.

CAIRNS TO BECOME FILMMAKERS’ HUB

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes at the former Bunnings Warehouse site in Cairns, which closed in 2015.

Construction of the $12.6 million Screen Queensland Cairns studios commenced in March 2023. The complex is due for completion in early 2024 and will include production offices, editing suites, a sound recording studio, ?an events space, and permanent creative tenancies.

Mark Melrose, Head of Studios and Physical Production at Screen Queensland delivered an update on the project at the Cairns Forum 4 Business Growth last Friday.

We are excited to see many more productions filmed in Cairns using local industry professionals and talent.
