THE IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING WHERE TO TAP!
A giant engine in a factory failed. The factory owner and his team had spoken to several engineers but none of them could show them how they could solve the problem.
Then, someone recommended an old man who had been fixing engines for many years.
After inspecting the engine for a few minutes, the old man pulled a hammer out of his tool bag and gently tapped on a specific spot in the engine.
Immediately the engine sprung back into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed.
A week later the owner of the business received an invoice from the old man for the amount of £10,000.
“This is a rip off.” the owner exclaimed.
“What did he do that should cost so much?” he continued. “He hardly did anything!”
He immediately wrote the old man a note and asked him for a breakdown of his unacceptable bill.
The old man sent an itemized bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer: …... £2.
Knowing where to tap: …... £9,998.
Moral of the story; while effort is important, having the “experience” to know where to put that effort makes all the difference.
Albert Einstein said, "The only source of knowledge is experience."
Experience is the essential and paramount source of knowledge. Experience cannot be taught, it is only learned through trial and error.
As you continue to build your business, or just make sound decisions in life, experience will always be a crucial factor in driving successful outcomes.
There is simply no substitute for hard-earned experience if you truly want to be successful in your chosen field.
When you don’t have the experience, don’t just work hard, work smart and get better, every single day. Don’t learn to do but learn in doing.
