The Importance of Internal Communication in Large Organizations
Working in large companies with more than 7,000 employees is a significant challenge in terms of internal communication. At a time when digital media were not as developed as they are today, I had the opportunity to face this challenge using conventional methods to implement the necessary cultural changes according to the company's objectives.
My background in communication and mass media gave me a deep understanding of how communication works and its impact on any organization. This knowledge helped me to develop innovative internal communication strategies that have proven effective in several companies. As a result of my experience in television, we created internal newscasts, in which we produced, investigated and covered events within the company. These newscasts, broadcast in dining rooms, helped to keep all employees informed in an accessible and engaging way.
In addition to newscasts, we used radio productions, broadcasting important messages through a central speaker system that could be heard even in the restrooms. This strategy was especially useful when we needed to communicate information quickly, overcoming the limitations of e-mail, where many employees did not open messages on time.
Another key tool was the creation of an information bulletin, an archive that kept developing over the time and included photographs of events, production targets and awareness campaigns on topics such as health and safety in the workplace. This document became a valuable resource for keeping all employees aware of important changes and updates.
Internal communication is critical to the organizational development of any company. Recognizing the efforts of each team member, delegating tasks with transparency and communicating clear messages are essential elements for success. Today, with the digital tools available, it is much easier and faster to implement these strategies. However, it is still crucial to maintain constant feedback with employees, using surveys and interviews to improve communication processes.
As for the relationship between internal communication and the company's external image, it is vital that values are consistent on both sides. Employees should feel proud of what they produce, and that same satisfaction should be reflected in how the company's achievements are communicated externally. Consistency in both internal and external messaging is key to creating not only quality products and services, but also meaningful experiences for everyone involved.
