I aspire for the way I operate at 1 People to have a long standing effect of the philosophy on the purpose of future corporations.
As concerns increase for climate change, returning profits to stakeholders is no longer the exclusive purpose of mine and others work. I have recognised along with many other progressive entrepreneurs that we must cater for our communities not only our consumers. This is why I want to share how to protect the environment and people in it by operating a transparent business with sustainability and empowerment at the core of our ethos.
Firstly, create a systemic link between environmental and financial information, aim to provide a unique X-ray into corporate environmental performance and ambitions. You want your audience to truly understand your principles and guidelines alongside your product offering and business growth aims. As you will soon find that many CEOs are promoting a sustainable life and business, but will not be happy to disclose their carbon footprint or their workers' warehouses etc. This secretive way of operating businesses was once the norm, but in today's culture audiences have begun to challenge data they receive as they aim to consume consciously.
Another way to impactfully put your money where your mouth is and reverse the negative impacts of climate change is, to offer market based solutions that don't involve your target audience having to compromise. At 1 People not only do we research and collaborate in order to find lasting materials but we delve deeply into current trends, movements and our audiences authentic style and character so we can offer them designs that are timeless and conscious. Shopping sustainability should never mean that you have to compromise on fashion taste or quality, that is why we are introducing a new meaning of sustainability.
Being committed to purpose and transparency is an ambitious task but very rewarding. You learn to ask yourself questions before your audiences do so and build the best version your business can be. Operating a socially responsible business where you can proudly share with audiences your work environment and where your product has derived from, means that you get to make decisions you are excited to tell your family and you can wake up in the morning knowing that what you do not only profits people but the planet.
I encourage all to adopt a transparent leadership style, as I have learnt first hand that this brings enormous benefits in terms of company culture, employee engagement, customer loyalty and productivity. Increasing the transparency of your business tends to always lead to building a very positive reputation and trust with the audience.
