The Importance & Impact of the Blood of Jesus
What makes the blood of Jesus so powerful? Where does it derive its power? To answer these questions, come with me as we explore a few things about the blood of Jesus.
The blood of Jesus is powerful because of:
Its Source
The source determines the life, function, purpose, and power of anything. Therefore, the source of the blood of Jesus establishes its power. Where is the source of the blood of Jesus? The source of the blood of Jesus is from above.
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35).
If “the Holy One who will be born will be called the Son of God,” this means that the source of His blood is God. The scripture in Acts 20:28 supports this idea. The Bible states in Acts 20:28 (NKJV) Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
If God purchased the church with His own blood, it means the blood of Jesus is the blood of God. Since the blood of Jesus is the blood of God, its source is God. Therefore, the power in the blood of Jesus is divine. The power in the blood of Jesus is the power of God.
Now, remember that all power, without exception, comes from God and belongs to God. Psalms 62:11 says, “God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.”
Therefore, the first power in the blood of Jesus that makes it powerful is the power of God Himself.
Its Life
Leviticus 17:11 says, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”
The question is, “What is the life in the blood of Jesus?” As we look at its source, we see that the source of the blood of Jesus is God. The blood of Jesus is the very blood of God; thus, it contains the life of God.
John 6:54 says, “ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. The blood of Jesus is as powerful as the life within it. The life in the blood of Jesus is the life of God — eternal life. Therefore, eternal life is the power present in the blood of Jesus.
Its Purity
Jesus is the lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Peter 1:19 states, “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
Now, the purity of the blood depends on the life one leads and the creature that resides in the flesh. So, how did Jesus live in the flesh?
Jesus knew no sin. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Jesus was not convicted of any sin. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? (John 8:46).
Jesus was tempted, but He did not sin. He was without sin. Hebrews 4:14–16 (NKJV) 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus lived a sinless life on earth in the flesh. Therefore, Jesus’ blood is also sinless and untainted. The power of sin holds no authority over it. The devil has nothing to accuse as impurity in the blood of Jesus, as it is completely pure. No impurity exists within it. It possesses a purifying power because it embodies that cleansing essence. It has the ability to purify, cleanse, and make whole. This purifying power serves as the third force, making the blood of Jesus effective in its work and powerful in its dealings.
Its Purchasing Power
The blood of Jesus is a currency. It purchases. It serves as a medium of exchange in the spiritual realm. The power of a currency is demonstrated by its readiness and ease of acceptance as a medium of exchange within a civilization. The power of the blood of Jesus as a currency is evident when it buys and frees captives from the prisons of captivity where they are held by the devil. Zechariah 9:11 says, “As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.”
The blood of Jesus has: -
Its Speaking Ability and Power.
Hebrews 12:24 (NKJV) 24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
The sprinkled blood of Jesus speaks. It speaks of better things than the blood of Abel. The blood of Abel symbolizes the blood of all creatures. The blood of these creatures cries out for revenge.
Revelation 6:9–10 (NKJV) 9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
The blood of Jesus is the blood of God (Acts 20:28), the blood of the Creator. The blood of the Creator cries out for mercy, while the blood of creatures cries out for revenge. This is why the Bible states that the blood of Jesus speaks better things than that of Abel. The cry for mercy is more powerful than the cry for revenge. Thus, the voice of mercy that the blood of Jesus utters is superior and stronger. For the cry for mercy from the blood of Jesus sets the captives free. Therefore, the voice of mercy from the blood of Jesus is potent and liberates captives.
Its Witnessing Power
The blood of Jesus is one of the three witnesses on earth, and these three witnesses agree.
1 John 5:6–8 (NKJV) 6 This is He who came by water and blood — Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
Its Covenant Potent
The blood of Jesus is the only blood of the covenant that nullifies any other covenant ever made against us by our ancestors and by the devil. It also nullifies the covenants we make against ourselves and to the devil. It nullifies the agreements we make with other human beings that work against us and are contrary to God. It is the only blood that speaks mercy to guilt; other blood speaks revenge. The blood of Jesus is the only price that the devil cannot counterattack, pay, or match. When applied, the blood of Jesus speaks judgment to the devil and mercy to the believer who is held captive by the devil. The blood of Jesus, when applied, nullifies other covenants and sets the captive free from prison, from the claws, and from the clutches of the devil.
Its Redeeming Power
The blood of Jesus redeems us; it buys us back. It not only redeems but also forgives sin. The blood of Jesus redeems and forgives our sin.
In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:14).
In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7).
Its Remittal Power
The blood of Jesus possesses the power to remit sins.
For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (Matthew 26:28).
And according to the law, almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood, there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22).
The blood of Jesus removes the sin, its effect, and its punishment.
Its Forgiving Power
The blood of Jesus has the power to forgive our sins. First, it redeems us. Second, it forgives our sins. Third, it removes those sins from us. Lastly, it forgets those sins. The blood redeems us and forgives our sins.
In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:14).
In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7).
Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies. (Psalms 103:4).
The blood forgives our sins. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases. (Psalms 103:3)
The blood removes our sins. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:11–12)
The blood blots away sin until God cannot remember them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)
Its Cleansing Power
The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all our sins. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)
The blood of Jesus cleanses our conscience from dead works. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14).
Its Propitiation Power
What is propitiation? Propitiation is the act of appeasing or placating a god, spirit, or person. It involves atoning for sin or wrongdoing, particularly in relation to a deity.
The blood of Jesus appeases God on our behalf. It atones for our sin and wrongdoing that we have committed against God.
Romans 3:23–26 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Its Justifying Power
The blood of Jesus justifies. It has the power to justify. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. (Romans 5:9)
Its Reconciliation Power
The blood of Jesus has brought us closer to God. It has established peace between God and us.
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (Colossians 1:19–20)
Ephesians 2:11–13 (NKJV) 11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh — who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands — 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:14–18 (NKJV) 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Its Accessing Authority and Power
The blood of Jesus acts as the way, the door, and the key to the throne room of God. It opens the door to the throne room and invites us before God.
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus. (Hebrews 10:19).
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. (Hebrews 9:11–12).
Its Washing Power
The blood of Jesus washes us from our sins.
And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood. (Revelation 1:5).
Its Overcoming Power
The blood of Jesus is the overcoming blood. It triumphs over the devil and his cohorts in all their efforts. The blood of Jesus overcomes and defeats the devil in every battle. When applied by saints, the blood of Jesus guarantees victory.
Revelation 12:10–11 (NKJV) 10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
