The Importance Of Honoring Your Truth

VaVa was founded nearly ten years ago by two young women who simply followed their intuition, before the virtual workspace or virtual assistants were really heard of. Had they had any doubt about their idea, or let themselves get caught up in what other people thought, VaVa wouldn’t be the thriving company it is today. They are just one example of the magic that can happen when you have faith in yourself and your purpose.
Living with purpose means showing up as who you want to be and expressing yourself openly, regardless of what others think. Everyone desires love and acceptance, and our instinct is to blend in and do what we think others expect as a way of earning their love and respect. However, it’s the people who stand out, who think outside the box, and who follow their intuition unapologetically that inspire great innovation in our world.
If we all limited ourselves to what everyone else thinks, we’d create nothing new, and we’d stagnate. Our individual purpose is revealed to us through our own truths. In order for us to grow, improve, or heal, people need to make their authenticity a full-time business. Living unapologetically without fear of judgment, or holding ourselves back, is a lifetime practice. Most people are conditioned early on to believe it’s safer to show the world who we think it wants us to be, rather than who we are. We learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable denial of our honest selves.
Why Do We Hold Ourselves Back?
People strive to be liked because that means we can avoid uncomfortable situations, like getting hurt or being rejected. Humans are like pack animals, and long ago, having a community helped us survive. Our subconscious mind is always trying to protect us from danger, and it tells us that in order to stay alive, we have to fit the mold so that we can be included in the community. You may have experienced abandonment or rejection first hand to confirm this. However, denying or hiding your true self is never sustainable for long. It’s tiring to always be putting on a show. When we repress who we are, we’ll feel frustrated, anxious, lost, or depressed because we’ll have stopped trying to connect to our inner purpose; the thing that calls to us.
Being Truthful Is A Responsibility
Building relationships with others is a wonderful thing, and sometimes they call for compromise, but if we don’t honor who we are, we stop ourselves from realizing our full potential. Being uniquely, genuinely, truthfully you actually allows for deeper, more meaningful connections. It builds trust and comfortability with others, and can inspire others to do the same. That can create radical, beautiful advancements and changes in our world and how we live and connect. In a way, we each have a responsibility to be completely ourselves, and to honor our truth, because it can light someone up to do the same.
Living Fully To Add Purpose In Every Day
Obviously, we all have obligations and responsibilities that we can’t just abandon. This might make you feel stuck, or like it’s too difficult to make changes. But finding your purpose won’t come overnight, and it’s not always obvious or a linear process. You may have become so familiar with the uncomfortable that you don’t realize your current choices or behaviors don’t resonate with you. No matter what you’re going through or where you’re at in your life, you can live more intentionally and show up more fully, making each day more purposeful.
1. Take inventory of your behaviors. When do you feel like you need to hide? Are there things about yourself that you repress to make others comfortable? Start noticing when and why you feel this way, and who you’re around. Think about how you would live if you felt completely free from judgement to be who you are. What’s the worst thing that could happen if you did?
2. Figure out what’s important to you. What do you value? When do you feel the most confident? How can you feel more connected to yourself and your community? Sacrificing your happiness for other people will eventually grow into resentment, depression, and regret. It’s important to make time for the things that are important to you, no matter how small they may seem. Little things add up to be significant, and they can clue you in to your higher calling.
3. Follow your intuition. The smallest nudge in one direction can guide your path in a substantial way. Honoring your instincts and truth will help you push through obstacles to accomplish goals and align you with your purpose. Simply quiet your mind, learn to sit with yourself, and listen to your gut instincts. No one has ever regretted listening to their instincts.
We all know deep down what we want to do, who we want to be, and what makes us happy. It’s easy to get so caught up in the surrounding chatter, and all the things we think we should do or are supposed to do, that we don’t stop to think about what makes us feel fulfilled. Honoring your whole self is a practice that can infuse every day with purpose and intention.
