If someone has hurt you or done you wrong in the past, it can be very difficult to forgive them. You may still be holding on to resentment, anger, blame or bitterness. The thing is, what you are holding on to is only hurting you. The other person probably doesn’t even realize the impact that their actions have on you or they might not even care.
When you make the decision to forgive others, you are doing it for yourself. Carrying a grudge, failing to forgive, remaining resentful and angry at someone is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. The anger, grudge, resentment, and hate that you carry is like a poison in your soul.
Why you should forgive others is because it saves you, your soul, your heart, your creativity, your life, and your love. It frees up this huge cankering space in your heart to be full of more important, positive things. This happens when you don’t just forget but you take the actions necessary to release and let go of the anger, hurt and resentment and truly forgive someone.
So how do you do this? First of all, it is important to realize that everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect. Whatever it is that someone else has done or you felt that they did to you, you need to be willing to release the feelings with total forgiveness, no harsh feelings, judgment or negativity.
It may not be easy at first as you may still be filled with the resentment and negativity. You can make the choice though to let go and to send love and kindness to them, wish only the best for them as they move along their path and you continue to move along yours.
Choosing to forgive and cast off the burdens of those that have hurt you, will be a blessing and a gift far greater than any anger, resentment or hatred that you could continue to hold on to.
If you want help applying this principle in your own life and in the lives of your team members, let’s have a conversation.
