Hi,
Again, I hope you are fine today...!
Today i am going to share some of my thoughts about The importance of Focus in UX Design Process.
As we already know, the design is a scientific approach to a problem and help the user to solve it in good and efficient way. The time consuming for a decision making in UX process is very important. This is very important in achieving goals of user when they using our products.
If the process is not clear to the user, it will negatively affect overall Experience. The clarity of the process can be boost by focus.
What is Focus?
When we hear the word - focus, almost all people connect it to camera. But in Experience Design process, the word Focus stands for the attention of the actions or information that lead the user to next stage/state of product. Like popups or which button need to click to move to next state.
As per a user phycology, they are very vulnerable to distractions by the other part of products or from external ways. So we need to help the user to make his attention to the product or provide feed back from the product.
Here, Focus is useful to help to achieve good user behavior as we want from them.
This 'focus' is a very small part in Experience Design. But we know that combination of smaller thing make big thing. Like a building, they are made by combination of lot of small bricks and other small elements.
The Importance Focus in UX Design
Just take look in above image. It is a incoming call UI from dribble (not mine). And thanks for the designer who made this.
The button 'Accept' is highlighted by a blue box. That is the focus of the required action need to done by a user (generally). So the interaction experience higher in this secession.
Just take a look below image
This is the same first UI. The only change i made is, removed blue box from 'Accept' button. Then the 'Decline' and 'Accept' buttons are now in same priority. Here we are not focused to the required action until we spend some stress to get what to do.
This is why i mentioned that Focus or attention is a small big part in UX/UI design process.
The above example is just general. There are so many fields on our product, the focus help the user to build great experience.
In Hardware product design also Focus is very important.
For example, take a washing machine.
There are so many buttons for various functions. The main function is to start. So it need to be focused.
Just look the below image (taken from google images) once
I think this is an interface of an washing machine. Here we can see 'start/pause' button is focused by large size compare to other button. Because the priority of this button is higher than other.
Just think if the button size is same as other and unfocused, for the user, mainly old people became little bit hard to find the start/pause button. In emergency situations also this is a problem.
The above example is just general. For we can use animations (like blinking), Size (size define the priority and attention), popup (like separate background to avoid distractions), Blur BG (to make thing focused and to avoid distraction from background), Colour (different types of colour also help to get focused like important/danger- Red) like many ways we can create user attention or focus in Products and applications.
On the remote image mentioned below, the size and red colour of the power button make it focused and shows the importance.
Above image the focus shift to the text box because the background is blurred.
These are some examples of Focused Experience.
At the endpoint
All the thing i wrote above are from my personal experience and knowledge. It may vary with other. If any of my words hurts anyone and if any mistakes i made, i really apologize for that.
Have a nice day...!
And thanks for spending your valuable time with me...!
