?? THE IMPORTANCE OF FILLING UP YOUR CUP

?? THE IMPORTANCE OF FILLING UP YOUR CUP

?? Opening Up:

I am going to be open with you dear reader, I hated the phrases like “Filling up your cup or “putting your mask on first” or anything in that arena.?

I told myself it was tacky, but now looking back I just knew it was an area I didn’t want to address. I knew I was last on my priority list for many reasons. I didn't want a light shone there, because of what people might see if they did.?

I had bought into what most men, even most people buy into, that if I work hard and I provide and look after others, then that is my self worth taken care of. When I die then people will say “Oh he was a nice bloke”. Job done.?

But what that led to was burn out, exhaustion and life just feeling awful. I joked to my wife about feeling like a donkey just ferrying and lifting things but there was a sad truth in it. I felt like my worth was just functional.

?? A New Dawn:

When I hit my breaking point, I dared to explore unfamiliar territory—I committed to filling up my cup. Sure, I rationalized it as a means to give more to others, but deep down, I knew it was about reclaiming my own well-being.

? Prioritizing Self-Care:

I made non-negotiables part of my weekly routine—exercise, self-development, mindfulness, and family time took precedence, scheduled before work. If work had to fit in, it had to fit around these priorities.

?? Starting the Day Right:

Every morning, I moved my body—whether it was a brisk walk, a run, or simply stretching. I embraced the fresh air and sunlight, energizing myself for the day ahead.

?? The Ripple Effect:

As I prioritized self-care, I noticed profound changes:

  • You Show the World How to Treat You: By valuing and respecting myself, I signaled to the world that I was a priority. And in turn, the world treated me accordingly.
  • Time and Energy Abound: Shifting my priorities left me feeling more energized and in control. I became more productive at work and had ample energy for my loved ones.
  • Life Finds its Flow: With a clearer mind and a fuller cup, life seemed to fall into place. My relationships flourished, my work became more fulfilling, and every day held more meaning.

?? Closing Thoughts:

I share this journey in the hope that it inspires you to start filling up your cup, too. Remember, self-care isn't selfish—it's essential.

With Love, Phil ??
